Position Summary We are looking for a full‑time Mechanical Designer at our Tonawanda, NY location. This is an onsite position that involves the development and complete engineering definition of products for fabrication in conjunction with sales proposals and customer input, ensuring efficient and reliable performance while satisfying customer needs.

Responsibilities

Maintain specific knowledge of project‑specific engineering schedule and elevate potential issues with the schedule and/or foreseeable conflicts or delays to supervisor.

Have specific knowledge of project routings and elevate potential issues to supervisor.

Actively participate in project kick‑off meetings.

Have a complete understanding of project specifications and customer expectations.

Read and interpret P&ID (Process and Instrumentation Diagrams).

Identify discrepancies or lack of information in available project documentation to supervisor.

Understand and adhere to product design standards and guidelines.

Select and source common mechanical components.

Develop complete definition of mechanical components for communication to vendor for purchasing.

Create comprehensive 3D models to be used for design review and 2D fabrication drawing creation.

Understand and implement machine design practices including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), surface finishes, component fits.

Understand in‑house fabrication and testing capabilities. Design products for manufacturability.

Utilize Syteline ERP as required throughout project.

Produce shop‑ready drawings and bills of material for fabrication with clear and concise information and details.

Support production during fabrication and assembly phases of projects.

Identify Bill of Materials for product designs and select the proper components that meet the customer specifications.

Collect as‑built information as required and track design updates to implement on future projects.

Understand and know how to apply common codes and standards ASME Piping and pressure Vessel code when required and seek support from Design Engineer for total compliance.

Manage multiple projects and balance requirements to keep all jobs on schedule.

Maintaining a dynamic array of tasks and the ability to prioritize through good time management skills.

Work with Project Engineers in a team environment to create conceptual designs to support sales and detailed designs as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology from a 4‑year accredited college or university.

Experience with 3D modeling and 2D drafting using Autodesk Inventor (or similar 3D modeling software) design software and parametric modeling techniques.

Experience in complex custom equipment design.

Previous manufacturing floor and design exposure is a plus.

Two (2) years of full‑time verifiable experience in the field.
