Mechanical Designer

Position Summary The Mechanical Designer is responsible for the design, development, and documentation of mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, supporting industrial manufacturing operations. This role partners closely with engineering, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, cost‑effective, and compliant with industry standards. The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment and a strong understanding of production processes.

Key Responsibilities – Design & Engineering

Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using SolidWorks

Develop mechanical designs for industrial equipment, machinery, fixtures, tooling, or products

Apply GD&T per ASME standards to ensure proper form, fit, and function

Conduct tolerance analysis and basic engineering calculations

Revise and improve existing designs based on manufacturing feedback, testing results, or field issues

Maintain accurate design documentation and engineering change records (ECOs/ECNs)

Manufacturing & Cross‑Functional Support

Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure designs are optimized for production

Support prototype builds, first‑article inspections, and production ramp‑ups

Assist with troubleshooting production or assembly issues related to design

Evaluate materials, finishes, and manufacturing methods (machining, sheet metal, welding, casting, etc.)

Documentation & Standards

Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)

Ensure compliance with internal engineering standards, safety requirements, and applicable codes

Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

Follow established engineering and document control procedures

Required Qualifications

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field

3+ years of mechanical design experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment

Proficient in SolidWorks (parts, assemblies, drawings, configurations)

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, welding, fabrication)

Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack‑ups, and mechanical drafting standards

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

Experience collaborating with manufacturing and production teams

Preferred Qualifications

Experience designing industrial equipment, automation systems, or heavy machinery

Familiarity with PDM/PLM systems (e.g., SolidWorks PDM)

Exposure to ERP systems for BOM and part release

Experience with prototype testing and production support

Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements applicable to manufacturing environments

Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience

Skills & Competencies

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills

Attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities

Effective communication with technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work Environment

Industrial manufacturing or engineering office setting

Regular interaction with production floors and manufacturing teams

May require occasional lifting, standing, or travel to plant locations or suppliers

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Jacksonville, FL.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 – $50.00/hr.
