
Surplus Lines Representative

Position Summary
As a Surplus Lines Representative, you will handle semi‑routine assignments related to surplus lines documentation, ensuring accuracy in filings and supporting day‑to‑day operations. The role includes supporting the Surplus Lines teams, staying informed about industry changes, participating in customer outreach initiatives, collaborating with branch offices, contributing to maintaining tax tables, and assisting during internal and external audits.
Job Responsibilities
Work on semi‑routine assignments related to surplus lines documentation, recognizing accepted practices, and utilize online systems to retrieve, organize, and deliver surplus lines filings.
Support operational activities by working closely with branch offices and the accounting team to ensure proper procedures are followed within the Surplus Lines team.
Assist in maintaining tax tables and testing changes to the system, taking corrective action to ensure accuracy and reliability, and contributing to the verification of proper billing by the state.
Help the Surplus Lines teams during internal and external audits, ensuring that all requested documents and information are readily available and in compliance with audit requirements.
Provide day‑to‑day support and assistance to employees in the Surplus Lines team, ensuring a collaborative and effective working environment.
Serve as a liaison for the Underwriting and brokerage team in day‑to‑day relations with Operations to ensure all questions are answered and accounts are serviced in a timely and accurate manner.
Assist in the implementation and monitoring of account processes to ensure the ultimate account servicing is provided.
Stay informed about industry changes, company policies, and procedural updates, ensuring compliance with established guidelines, and follow established procedures on routine work.
Support brokers and clients with basic inquiries and requests related to surplus lines coverage and documentation and communicate changes in state regulations or company procedures.
Contribute to the development and execution of customer outreach initiatives, including the distribution of relevant materials and information to policyholders and agents.
Participate actively in training and development opportunities to enhance knowledge of surplus lines principles, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; Business Administration, Economics or Operations preferred (any other related discipline or commensurate work experience considered).
1‑2 years of work experience in Surplus Lines, Business Operations preferred.
Prescribed: Minimum requirements for state P&C and/or surplus line licenses.
Preferred: Associate in Surplus Lines Insurance (ASLI), Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR).
