Job Summary
Incumbents in this assignment serve as a Dietetic Internship Director and have full responsibility for administering all aspects of an accredited dietetic internship program, including planning, directing, and oversight of the supervised practice for dietetic interns.
Responsibilities
Develop, document, track, and assess program goals to ensure measurable results through data evaluation and improved program outcomes.
Write the self‑study for re‑accreditation and facilitate the ACEND site visit.
Maintain up‑to‑date program information online and coordinate program marketing events such as intern open houses and outreach programs.
Execute the selection process for dietetic interns, maintaining all ACEND‑required records, establishing a selection committee, and establishing selection criteria.
Plan and coordinate intern rotations, class schedules, and outside seminars with preceptors, presenters, and community affiliations.
Establish, administer, maintain, and coordinate affiliations with community programs and affiliated universities for the combined master’s intern program curriculum.
Coordinate maintenance of affiliation agreements between the VA facility and affiliated agencies.
Resolve policy, program, and project issues associated with the combined master’s program and outside affiliations.
Coordinate preceptor training and ensure ongoing preceptor competency.
Provide direction, orientation, coaching, in‑service training, and ongoing educational programs for the dietetic internship program.
Ensure timely completion of rotation evaluations and meet with interns to ensure progress toward program completion.
Create action plans when issues arise to give interns every opportunity to meet graduation requirements.
Issue trainee verification statements of internship completion and maintain permanent records as required by ACEND.
Perform other duties as assigned appropriate for this grade and assignment.
Education and Experience Applicants must have experience related to dietetic internship program administration and be proficient in written and spoken English. U.S. citizenship and Selective Service registration (for males born after 12/31/1959) are required.
Qualifications
Proficiency in program evaluation and data analysis.
Experience with ACEND accreditation processes and site visits.
Strong organizational and leadership skills to coordinate rotations, affiliations, and preceptor training.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Background and security investigation clearance.
Compliance with the Department of Veterans Affairs seasonal influenza vaccination program and ability to serve a 1‑year or 2‑year trial period.
Requirements
U.S. citizen with proper Selective Service registration.
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Subject to background and security investigation.
Must complete online onboarding and identification verification per I‑9 regulations, including REAL‑ID compliant license or state‑issued identification card.
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory.
Trial period of 1 year (or 2 years) with evaluation of performance and public‑interest advancement; termination if certification not obtained.
