Operational Leadership and Responsibilities

Directs daily packaging operations, including shift scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow management to meet production targets.

Ensures compliance with safety regulations and policies, quality control standards, food safety requirements, regulatory compliance, and accuracy in labeling and packaging materials.

Assists in addressing any production issues or quality defects regarding finished product.

Coordinates with maintenance teams for preventative maintenance and repairs on bagging line equipment as well as associated equipment.

Supervises, trains, mentors and develops packaging employees, including leads and operators, fostering a culture of safety and performance.

Ensures packaging efficiency, productivity, and adherence to production schedules.

Manages inventory control for packaging materials, ensuring adequate supplies with a focus on minimizing waste.

Analyzes performance data (OEE, uptime, capacity utilization, etc.) to identify bottlenecks and implement cost‑effective improvements.

Works well with all departments to coordinate work needed with Warehouse and Shipping, Quality and Maintenance teams to resolve issues and improve performance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Partner with the Warehouse and Shipping Manager to oversee day‑to‑day packaging and warehouse operations; ensure work is performed in accordance with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Monitor production performance, staffing, and workflow; address constraints and coordinate support (maintenance, quality, procurement) to meet daily targets.

Maintain housekeeping and workplace organization standards (e.g., 5S) in assigned areas; reinforce safe work practices and proper equipment use.

Identify and resolve day‑to‑day production issues; complete assigned action items and elevate risks or recurring issues to management.

Maintain the department training matrix and ensure required training is completed and documented; provide training materials and on‑the‑job coaching; coordinate refresher training assignments; and deliver training as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide day‑to‑day supervision for employees in the packaging and warehouse areas.

Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.

Train and coach employees on safety requirements, mobile equipment operation (as applicable), standard work, and daily operating procedures.

Assign work, set expectations, and monitor performance; address employee concerns and resolve routine issues in a timely manner.

Maintain required individual training and certifications; support cross‑training and onboarding for new or reassigned employees.

Quality and Food Safety Role

Verify compliance with the HACCP plan and GMPs through established documentation and routine checks of processing/packaging activities.

Monitor operations using documented procedures and policies; report nonconformances and implement or coordinate corrective actions to maintain compliance.

Complete required verification and documentation activities accurately and on schedule.

Qualifications

Experience – 1–5 years of previous supervisory or management experience in manufacturing operations.

Skills – Strong understanding and technical knowledge of packaging equipment, leadership abilities, proficiency in production metrics, quality standards, and food safety requirements.

Education – An advanced educational degree is preferred; extensive professional and practical experience is generally accepted.

Other Skills The ability to develop a strong sense of accountability. Problem‑solving skills utilizing metrics. The ability to develop a strong team structure through effective communication.

Education, Experience, and Certifications Associate’s degree (or higher) in a technical or process‑related field with 3+ years of production experience. In lieu of a degree, 5–10 years of production experience (including experience as a production lead) may be considered.

Core Skills

Microsoft Office (Excel, Word); timekeeping/payroll and web‑based systems (e.g., E‑Time Sheet).

Read and apply safety rules, instructions, and technical manuals; write routine reports and documentation.

Basic math and production reconciliation (production, shipped/received totals and metrics).

Problem‑solving and judgment; interpret and carry out written/verbal instructions (including diagrams and schedules).

Work environment characteristics: wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures, work at heights, fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration, moderate noise.

Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods.

Frequently required to use hands for handling and feeling; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and communicate effectively (talk and hear).

Required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
