
Veteran Affairs Director

Perry County is accepting applications for a Director of Veterans Affairs. This position is responsible for providing assistance and counseling to veterans and their dependents concerning veteran benefits and services, and advocates for veteran services.
Responsibilities
Plan, direct, organize, and coordinate all activities and outreach of the Perry County Veterans Affairs Office
Interview and counsel veterans and/or their families to inform them of available benefits, services, and eligibility
Gather information and evaluate eligibility for veterans’ benefits; submit claims and perform follow up; initiate and develop claim appeals
Prepare annual department budget and monitor expenditures
Authorize County payment of veterans’ affairs claims and maintain official military records
Prepare presentations and speak to a wide variety of social organizations to educate and inform
Analyze and determine the impact of new or revised federal and state legislation/regulations regarding veteran assistance programs
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field
OR Four (4) years’ experience in veterans services or related nonprofit work
OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Compensation includes a starting salary of $27.91/hour, with consideration for relevant experience. Perry County employment offers a comprehensive benefit package that includes generous paid time off, a County retirement plan, and health, dental, and vision insurance after a 90-day probation period.
