Manager for Automation Sales (Open)
Location: Wichita, KS (West) – Retail shop; Tulsa, OK – Peoria – Customer installations.
Responsibilities
Guide and support Automation Specialists to advance sales growth, EBITDA performance, and high‑quality customer service through efficiencies in automation.
Partner and collaborate with Area Vice Presidents to build short‑ and long‑term strategies for each area.
Act as the catalyst for sales growth for the automation market segment.
Facilitate discussions with customer engineering teams, CEOs, and other stakeholders.
Develop the Automation Specialist team to efficiently and effectively execute the automation sales strategy.
Lead the Automation sales team, serving as trusted advisors for all aspects of automation (robotics, cutting systems, etc.) for MetFab customers.
Travel up to 50% of the time.
Steward automation assets, forecast and budget for future staff and equipment needs for the fiscal year.
Cultivate effective collaboration, teamwork, and communication throughout the region via staff meetings and planning sessions.
Develop a P&L (Sales & GP) to enable the region to measure the growth of all automation technologies and related products.
Develop local vendor partnerships, conduct technical and product sales training, and support the sales process.
Oversee the Airgas commercial offering for all laser gases.
Support training and development for the automation team to align with market needs.
Interface with the service team for all installations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
BS degree in Business or Engineering.
Valid driver’s license.
Minimum 10 years of experience in the welding industry, with at least 5 years leading a sales force supporting mechanized cutting systems, robotics, and related automated welding/cutting products (15 years preferred).
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong writing skills for national reports and correspondence.
Strong interpersonal and intrapersonal communication skills to build partnerships with owners and general managers of large companies.
Strong understanding of business acumen across the markets served by Airgas.
A demonstrated history of delivering impact that could supersede specific educational requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with manual, semi‑automated and automated welding processes and their advancement.
Automation and robotic applications primarily associated with welding and related processes.
Experience with basic shop equipment used for punching, forming, bending, or rolling of plate and structural steel components.
Knowledge of automation equipment from various suppliers.
Proactive and dedicated to achieving shared goals.
Collaborative communication skills to support and empower others and effectively foster alignment within groups.
Team player with a positive attitude toward other associates, customers, and the work environment.
Flexible and adaptable to changing customer schedules.
Financial insight for articulating ROC and other metrics used by business professionals when considering capital equipment purchases.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic and calculate rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
Comfortable navigating evolving situations.
