About the Role
An NBC affiliate in Winston‑Salem, North Carolina is offering a paid summer internship in its newsroom. This is a hands‑on opportunity to shadow working journalists and production staff while gaining real experience in a live, deadline‑driven news environment. Interns will be placed in one of five tracks based on interest and availability: News Producer, News Reporter, Video Journalist, Digital Producer, or Technical Production.

Internship Tracks
News Producer
Collaborating with news managers and producers to identify the day's top stories
Learning to write broadcast copy, research stories for accuracy, and work under tight deadlines
Assisting with the execution of live newscasts from the control room alongside production staff
Creating graphic elements including lower‑third supers and full‑screen graphics
Communicating with reporters to understand story details and develop compelling teases
Working alongside reporters and photographers to cover local news
Writing stories for both broadcast and online platforms
Shooting standups and practicing live shots
Learning the full technical workflow of a local news reporter
Video Journalist
Gathering video and interview content, then assembling stories for broadcast
Making quick assessments around safety and situational concerns in the field
Collaboration with reporters to tell visually compelling stories
Learning proper care and maintenance of news equipment
Digital Producer
Working with the digital team to identify and prioritize daily stories
Learning to produce content in a CMS that supports web and social platforms
Writing copy, researching stories for accuracy, and coordinating with reporters
Building the technical skills needed to work as a digital producer
Technical Production
Training on all aspects of behind‑the‑scenes newscast production: directing, technical directing, audio, and camera operation
Learning how control room roles work together to execute a live newscast
Operating newscast execution software, graphics systems, and live field elements
Communicating under pressure to troubleshoot issues during live broadcasts
