Job Title: Director, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting Department: Finance / Accounting Reports To: VP, Corporate Controller or Chief Accounting Officer Location: Hybrid in Plano Position Summary The Director of SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting is responsible for leading the company’s external financial reporting process and ensuring full compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations . This role oversees the preparation and filing of all SEC reports, manages the company’s XBRL (eXtensible Business Reporting Language) reporting and tagging process , and provides technical accounting expertise for complex transactions and emerging accounting standards. This leader will partner closely with finance, legal, investor relations, FP&A, and external auditors to ensure timely, accurate, and transparent financial disclosures while maintaining alignment with evolving regulatory requirements and SEC taxonomy updates . Key Responsibilities Lead the preparation and review of all SEC filings, including Form 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other required disclosures . Ensure financial statements and footnotes are prepared in compliance with U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting standards . Coordinate the quarterly and annual financial reporting process, including internal and external review cycles. Manage disclosure controls and procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness of public filings. Partner with Investor Relations and Legal to ensure consistency between earnings releases, investor presentations, and SEC filings. Oversee the company’s XBRL tagging and filing process , ensuring accuracy and completeness of data tagging. Ensure compliance with SEC taxonomy requirements and evolving digital reporting standards . Manage relationships with third-party financial reporting/XBRL vendors and platforms. Review and validate inline XBRL (iXBRL) tagging , extensions, and data quality controls prior to submission. Monitor regulatory updates related to digital reporting requirements and implement process improvements. Technical Accounting Serve as the company’s internal expert on technical accounting matters and new accounting pronouncements . Research and document accounting positions related to complex transactions including: Revenue recognition Business combinations Lease accounting Equity and debt transactions Impairments and restructuring Prepare technical accounting memos supporting accounting conclusions. Lead the implementation of new FASB/GAAP standards and assess their impact on financial reporting. Compliance & Controls Support and enhance SOX compliance related to financial reporting processes. Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting and disclosure. Collaborate with internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration Lead and mentor a team responsible for financial reporting and XBRL preparation. Partner with finance leadership, treasury, tax, and FP&A to ensure alignment of financial data across reporting functions. Drive process improvements and automation within the financial reporting function. Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on accounting and regulatory matters. Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA preferred CPA required Experience 10+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant SEC reporting experience Public accounting background (Big 4 or national firm) strongly preferred Experience in a public company or SEC reporting environment Direct experience overseeing XBRL tagging and digital financial reporting Technical Skills Deep knowledge of SEC reporting requirements, U.S. GAAP, and financial disclosure standards Expertise in XBRL / iXBRL tagging and SEC taxonomy Experience with financial reporting platforms (Workiva, ActiveDisclosure, Certent, or similar) Strong understanding of SOX and internal control frameworks Advanced Excel and financial reporting systems experience Strong technical accounting expertise Exceptional attention to detail and analytical ability Ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory guidance Strong project management and deadline management skills Executive-level communication and presentation skills Collaborative leadership and cross-functional influence Preferred Experience Experience managing SEC filing automation platforms Experience with large, complex public company reporting structures Exposure to international reporting considerations or multi-entity consolidations What Success Looks Like in This Role Accurate and timely SEC filings with no material errors Fully compliant XBRL tagging aligned with current SEC taxonomy Effective implementation of new accounting standards Streamlined financial reporting processes with strong internal controls Strong partnership with finance leadership, auditors, and regulators #J-18808-Ljbffr
