
Senior Mechanical Engineer, Mission Critical (AFG)

Role Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will complete increasingly complex mechanical, electrical and field construction activities. This position provides overall management direction and expertise in estimating, scheduling, quality control and commissioning in the mechanical/electrical scopes of work for select projects and for M/E personnel. This position will be responsible for collecting and assembling data, developing estimates, generating systems and bid analysis, and developing new business opportunities.

Complete entry‑level and routine mechanical, electrical and field construction activities.
Learn how to develop budgetary M/E estimates, based upon program and schematic design information using automated M/E estimating system.
Assist in the review of mechanical and electrical options as part of the pre‑construction process and complete systems analysis for select projects.
Learn to develop the mechanical and electrical scopes of work used to coordinate during the bid process.
Assist in completing bid analysis and providing input during the subcontractor selection process.
Assist in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and providing solutions to meet the schedule requirements.
Gain knowledge of design documents to identify potential quality problems and assist in developing constructability review reports.
Learn to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner.
Learn and assist with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with the contract documents.
Assist with the commissioning process, including developing pre‑functional checklists, functional testing procedures and actual functional testing.

Develop budgetary M/E estimates based upon program and schematic design information.
Review mechanical and electrical options, complete systems analysis, recommend the best system for the project and provide value engineering suggestions.
Coordinate the mechanical and electrical scopes of work during the bid process.
Develop sequencing requirements of various systems and provide solutions to meet the schedule requirements. Provide scheduling input during projects.
Review design documents and identify potential quality problems. Help develop quality control programs.
Perform job inspections at various times in the project to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality manner.
Develop pre‑functional checklists and functional testing procedures. Verify contractor's performance of functional test.
Review and approve shop drawings prior to submitting to the design team.
Generate and issue the Commissioning Plan for approval to the appropriate parties.
Verify deficiencies are corrected and submit commissioning documentation to owners.
Provide mentoring to less experienced co‑workers.
Create M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products.
Negotiate subcontracts with subcontractors.
Purchase equipment from equipment vendors for assigned projects.
Build relationships by being the direct face with the client.
Participate in interviews for winning work, presentations and business development efforts.
Represent the M/E department and JE Dunn at external community events.
Assume responsibility for resource allocation, staffing of assigned projects and ensuring reimbursability requirements are met.

Ability to build relationships with team members that transcend a project.
Advanced proficiency in required construction technology.
Intermediate proficiency in scheduling software.
Intermediate proficiency in BIM (Building Information Modeling).
Advanced ability to apply Lean process and philosophy.
Advanced ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability and generate future work through building relationships.
Intermediate knowledge of ASE and Lens.
Ability to construct a project from start to finish.
Ability to prepare the project budget, GMP or hard bid.
Ability to complete range estimates.
Ability to assist the Marketing team with presentation and marketing activities.
Ability to manage a team.
Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
Education
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering or related field (Required).
In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
10+ years construction management experience (Preferred).
Working Environment
Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
