Job Summary The Enrollment Services Department supports the academic mission of the University and collaborates with the campus and external community to enhance student success. Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and receiving work‐lead direction from the Lead, Undergraduate Admissions and Evaluations, the Undergraduate Admissions Evaluator performs complex student‐services work within a centralized admissions environment to determine student applicants’ admissibility to the university by following CSU regulations, policies and procedures. The incumbent is primarily responsible for complex tasks related to admissions evaluation, verification, and posting of transfer credit. All interactions aim to provide information about policies and procedures, suggest actions that resolve issues, and establish cordial relationships with those contacting the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach.
Key Responsibilities
Evaluate and process applications for admission for first‑year and transfer applicants
Review and analyse transcripts and academic records to determine transfer credit eligibility
Interpret and apply CSU and SJSU admissions policies, procedures and regulations
Advise students, parents and campus partners on admissions and enrollment processes
Provide support for application cycles, ensuring timely processing and adherence to established timelines
Maintain accuracy in student records and data‑management systems, including PeopleSoft (CMS)
Assist with appeal processes and serve as a resource for complex admissions inquiries
Collaborate with Enrollment Services and campus departments to enhance service delivery and process improvement
Participate in office, departmental and team meetings to stay current on policy updates and procedural changes
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner
Working knowledge of methods, procedures, practices and activities of the program area; English grammar, business writing, punctuation, spelling and arithmetic
Ability to effectively interact with diverse students and employees
General working knowledge of office and Enrollment Services methods, procedures, practices and activities
Ability to provide timely and accurate responses, manage multiple priorities and track decisions
Ability to reason logically and analyse data to make informed decisions
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive communications with students, parents, staff, faculty and external agencies
Ability to identify problems and find resolutions efficiently
Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations
Ability to collect, compile, analyse and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data
Ability to advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required
Working knowledge of technology and software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, database management and communication tools
Ability to perform accurately in a detail‑oriented environment
Ability to plan and execute multiple work priorities, and organise and plan work and projects
Ability to handle multiple work priorities, and organise and plan work and projects
Ability to identify conflict, problem‑solve and resolve student problems and concerns in the most efficient manner possible
Ability to plan, organise and implement small and large‑scale events to promote a welcoming and inclusive environment for nonresident students
Required Qualifications
Equivalent to a four‑year college or university degree in one of the behavioural sciences, public or business administration or a related field
Two years of professional experience in a student‑services program area or in a related field; a master’s degree in a job‑related field may substitute for one year of professional experience
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field
Experience working in a higher‑education enrollment‑services environment, admissions, records and/or evaluations
Experience analysing and interpreting college/high‑school transcripts, documents, process requirements and university policies regarding admissions and enrollment
Experience with PeopleSoft and customer‑service–based technology systems
Excellent written communication skills
Experience communicating admissions and/or student‑services policies and procedures to community college, university or high‑school constituents
Compensation Classification: Student Service Professional II Anticipated hiring range: $5,083/month – $5,146/month CSU salary range: $5,083/month – $7,228/month San José State University offers employees a comprehensive benefits package typically worth 30‑35% of the base salary.
