Position Summary
MSU Bikes Service Center Assistant / Marketing and Sales Assistant. This full‑time role assists with the business operations of the MSU Bikes Service Center. Duties include planning and implementing marketing strategies, providing customer service, representing the department at civic and external functions, developing plans to promote bicycling, overseeing retail operations, preparing reports, maintaining records, reconciling sales, and assisting with item assembly, repair, and maintenance. Responsibilities
Develop and execute sales and marketing strategies to recruit new customers and engage existing customers. Create print and digital promotional materials. Plan advertising strategies using surveys, evaluations, and marketing tools. Serve as liaison with clients, vendors, and university departments. Represent the department and university at civic functions and professional organizations. Develop and coordinate events to promote services and bicycling. Oversee retail operations, including pricing, product evaluation, and policy development. Prepare detailed reports, maintain unit records, and assist with contract administration. Reconcile POS systems and prepare deposits. Assist in developing and implementing retail policies and procedures and maintaining health and safety standards. Minimum Requirements
Associate’s Degree in Business or related field; coursework in bicycle maintenance, assembly, repair, or sales. Six months to one year of related experience in sales and marketing for bicycle maintenance, assembly, and repair, or equivalent education/experience. Valid Michigan vehicle operator’s license; must drive a university vehicle and meet rigorous safe‑driving standards. Desired Qualifications
Experience with bike maintenance tools and parts. Experience working with bicycle vendors and parts suppliers. Knowledge of bicycling and transportation alternatives. Strong technical and communication skills with a focus on innovative solutions. Benefits
