Radio Frequency Engineer

MachScale, Raleigh, NC, United States

Venture-backed company developing advanced electronic systems for deployed, mission-critical platforms. This role will own RF design work across transmitters, receivers, and array-based systems, with hands-on responsibility from prototyping through integration and test.

Role Description We are seeking an RF Engineer to help design, build, and test advanced electronic systems. This role suits someone who is comfortable working across RF design, prototyping, system integration, and test. The work sits at the intersection of embedded systems, radio communications, and deployed hardware, with a clear path from development through real-world use.

Core Responsibilities: Design and develop advanced RF circuits and subsystems for transmitters, receivers, and array-based systems. Design, capture, and lay out RF transceivers and high-speed mixed-signal PCBs. Work with matching networks, filters, LNAs, mixers, VGAs, PLLs/synthesizers, and VCOs. Apply best practices for EMI/RFI control and troubleshoot interference issues during design and test. Build and test prototypes using signal generators, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, power meters, and noise figure meters. Support integration of RF and microwave assemblies into larger mobile or embedded platforms. Analyze performance data, identify root causes of issues, and implement corrective design actions. Collaborate with firmware engineers to define and validate embedded interfaces and control loops.

Skills and Experience Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Minimum of 5 years of RF design experience from concept through production. Strong understanding of impedance matching, Smith charts, IP3, IMD, phase noise, and harmonic distortion. Proficiency with PCB CAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout. Hands-on experience with RF test equipment and prototype bring-up. Experience with antenna design or characterization is preferred. Experience debugging EMI/EMC issues at board and system levels is preferred.

Why Join This is an opportunity to join a small, high-ownership team building advanced RF systems that move from concept to deployed use quickly. The role offers broad technical scope, meaningful product ownership, and the chance to work closely with cross-functional engineering teams on systems where performance matters.

ITAR Compliance This role requires U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status due to the nature of the work and applicable compliance requirements.
