Regional Director of Development – Overview The Regional Development team builds and maintains relationships with alumni and friends across the country to raise major gifts for the University of Georgia. Regional Directors lead a culture of philanthropy in assigned territories, strengthen affinity for UGA, and provide strategic direction for alumni and friends as they make philanthropic and volunteer decisions.

Relocations are possible for candidates living in Dallas/Houston, Texas and/or Atlanta/Athens, Georgia, with an expectation of frequent travel to Texas markets. The position is primarily based in Athens, GA and requires work during evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

Conduct up to 160 scheduled, strategic meetings annually with top prospects and seniors.

Meet the expectations of scheduled, face‑to‑face meetings with prospective donors and alumni.

Discover, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward university‑wide prospects and donors for gifts of $50 k or more.

Develop and maintain a portfolio of prospects with a capacity of $50 k or more and prioritize $100 k+ solicitations.

Design and implement fundraising strategies to secure principal gifts ($1 million+) and major gifts ($50 k+).

Prepare timely, accurate, and relevant proposals, presentations, and other fundraising materials.

Maintain thorough records of meetings, interactions, and plans in the GAIL database.

Plan and participate in quarterly strategy planning sessions for assigned regions with internal stakeholders.

Create and execute fundraising plans for assigned regions in partnership with School/College/Unit fundraisers and other internal stakeholders.

Collaborate with development and alumni colleagues across campus to maximize giving potential.

Attend division and development staff meetings, schedule professional development activities, and complete administrative duties as required.

Adhere to CASE standards and industry fundraising reporting practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and five (5) years of professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with at least five (5) years of experience related to sales, marketing, development, business administration, higher education, project management, or relationship management.

Experience in major gift fundraising ($50 k or greater) within higher education.

Knowledge of the private funding landscape in higher education.

Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding university business and donor information.

Key Skills & Competencies

Proven record of accomplishment and success in fundraising or a similar role.

Ability to cultivate and solicit private gifts from high-level prospects.

Self‑starter and highly motivated with a collaborative style.

Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.

Problem‑solver who can take initiative and set priorities while remaining flexible.

Highly organized, able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Analytical mindset with adherence to goals and deadlines.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Creative thinker open to constructive feedback.

Professional and kind in responding to donor needs and concerns.
