Purpose
The Assistant Director will lead the Analytics & Energy Management groups within UEM, focusing on process improvement, data strategy, and performance metrics . This role ensures alignment with UEM's goals of operational excellence, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
The Assistant Director will provide leadership and oversight for UEM's data, performance metrics, and process improvement initiatives through the Analytics team. This includes developing and implementing a comprehensive data strategy that supports UEM's long-term objectives and setting the vision for how data drives decision-making and operational performance across the organization.
Additionally, the Assistant Director will lead the Energy Management team tracking campus energy and water usage, identify under-performing generation assets & buildings, set priorities of opportunities, monitor progress, and verify improvements.
The role involves working with multiple stakeholders to design and implement streamlined processes that enhance utilities production and utilization efficiency, and championing the adoption of innovative tools and best practices to improve performance.
Responsibilities
- Process Improvement and Operational Efficiency Enhancement: Leads UEM process improvement initiatives, collaborating with stakeholders to design, implement, and manage streamlined processes that enhance efficiency, operation, and service delivery across UEM functions.
- Strategic Data Leadership and Analytics Management: Develops, implements, and oversees UEM's comprehensive data strategy and analytics vision, ensuring data drives decision-making, performance metrics, and operational excellence in alignment with UEM goals. Champions data innovation and best practices.
- Energy Utilization: Partnering with the Sustainability team; foster relationships with Facilities, Environmental Health & Safety, colleges, and auxiliary owners. Create incentives that encourage staff to improve energy performance to achieve goals. Influence facility leadership to communicate importance of energy management to associates and rest of Campus community. Utilize software tools to analyze buildings and equipment efficiency. Seek out state and federal incentives for energy efficiency projects.
- Energy Improvements: Set tone for improvements throughout the organization. Measure the success of the energy management program. Collect energy use information and document performance data overtime. Perform baseline analyses and understand energy patterns and trends. Evaluate operating performance of facility systems and equipment to determine improvement potential. Provide guidance and strategy for data maintenance, analysis, and visualization. Provide energy data to other UT offices and research groups.
- Team Leadership and Development: Manages, recruits, mentors, and develops the Analytics and Energy Management teams, fostering a collaborative, innovative culture to achieve departmental goals and support UEM's mission.
- Administrative Duties: Assist in the supervision and required administrative duties. Ensures that work is performed per departmental and university standards and procedures.
- Follow all University and UEM safety policies and procedures, take required safety training, and identify and report safety hazards. Perform work tasks in a safe manner, wear the proper personal protective equipment, and report near misses and incidents. Abide by Utilities and Energy Management's set of core values: Safety, Respect, Integrity, Reliability, Teamwork, and Excellence.
- Performs other related functions as assigned. Attends staff meetings, safety training or meetings. Attends plant operation and maintenance training courses. Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Familiarity with energy savings techniques as they relate to HVAC and controls.
- Licensed P.E. in the State of Texas.
- Minimum of three years of experience in energy management.
- Familiarity with energy savings techniques as they relate to HVAC and controls.
- Experience in a University Campus environment.
- Managerial and/or supervisory experience.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a utility management, public works, or related field.
- Strong leadership skills to manage and develop teams, strategic plans, and execute technical programs or projects.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master or higher degree in Engineering, Data Analytics, Business Administration, or related field.
- Certified as a Certified Energy Manager.
- Eight or more years of progressively responsible managerial and administrative experience in a utilities system.
- 15 years of relevant experience in administrative practices and procedures as applied to the operations of a utilities department.
- Experience/knowledge about utility operations and maintenance, system planning, and work processes.
Driving Required
This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.
Salary Range
$140,000
