The QTI Group has partnered with a Madison-based publishing and media company in the search for a Content Managing Editor, with the possibility of joining at or quickly moving into the role of Publisher for a candidate with advanced experience. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, creative, and excited about leading the charge in a rapidly changing industry. About the opportunity As the company looks to the future, it is adding a new position that will take intellectual ownership of content creation, including determining offerings, identifying subject matter experts (SMEs) to deliver content, and working with the rest of the team to produce and market the content. Depending on experience and interest, the right candidate could potentially enter at the level of Publisher and progress into a company leadership role within a few years. Core job functions Own editorial strategy Take intellectual ownership of all offerings, leading the company’s overall content strategy. Draw on knowledge of the higher education industry, market data, and consultations with SMEs and advisory boards to shape the long-term content strategy. Drive editorial strategy towards growth and ongoing relevance. Program in-person and virtual conferences and online content Determine subject and format for content delivery. Identify SMEs to deliver content in a variety of formats (real-time presentations, video, visuals, written columns, asynchronous classes, conferences, etc.). Work with production team (web designers, technical staff, marketing and promotion, etc.) to deliver content in a way that is accessible and interesting to the audience, engages brand identity standards, and meets editorial calendar and quality expectations. Collaborate with and sustain an advisory board to ensure industry-relevant conferences (virtual & in-person) and other online written content. Ensure business stability and relevance Partner with marketing to department to ensure both free and paid content are hitting revenue and SEO goals, and to assess and adjust content strategy as needed. Required qualifications 7+ years in media / publishing with experience in editing in multiple formats (newsletters, events, online learning). Strong editorial judgement. Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and creativity to pursue new market opportunities. Demonstrated experience selecting and directing SMEs. Experience collaborating with marketing and design professionals to ensure content relevance and high-quality production. Preferred qualifications Experience planning both in-person and online events: designing the agenda, sourcing presenters, determining event flow, and managing attendee engagement. Familiarity with virtual event platforms and roles a plus. Knowledge of higher education, especially the current state of conversations about professional development for teaching professionals. Travel Travel out of state to a minimum of two in-person conferences each year. Interest in traveling to additional professional association several times per year is preferred.
