Job Description
We are seeking a reliable and skilled Associate Reach Stacker/Yard Goat to join our team in Torrance, CA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely operating reach stackers and performing yard goat duties to efficiently move and organize containers and trailers within the yard.
Key Responsibilities
Operate reach stackers to load, unload, and stack containers in the yard.
Perform yard goat duties including moving trailers to designated locations within the facility.
Ensure safe and efficient movement of equipment and cargo in compliance with company policies and safety regulations.
Conduct routine inspections and maintenance checks on equipment to ensure operational safety.
Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to coordinate yard activities.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Operate heavy‑duty reach stacker or top loader equipment to lift, move, stack, and unstack loaded and empty containers up to three high.
Safely mount/unmount containers to/from chassis, flatbeds, or other transportation equipment using precise control and coordination.
Follow container stacking plans and yard layout to maintain optimal space utilization.
Ensure all container movements are accurately tracked in the Yard Management System (GAIA) or via manual logs.
Conduct thorough pre‑shift and post‑shift inspections of equipment, documenting any issues such as hydraulic leaks, worn tires, or faulty controls.
Check container conditions for damage, seal integrity, and improper placement prior to movement.
Communicate with dispatch, supervisors, and gate clerks regarding container priorities and locations.
Maintain a clean and organized stacking area to reduce congestion and safety risks.
Comply with company and OSHA safety standards at all times.
Operate yard truck (yard goat truck) to safely reposition trailers within the yard, between dock doors, and to/from staging areas.
Drop and hook trailers while ensuring proper fifth‑wheel coupling, trailer brake engagement, and wheel chocking procedures.
Inspect trailers for safety compliance, including lights, tires, seals, and door integrity before movement.
Maintain trailer inventory by updating location changes in the Yard Management System (GAIA) or through coordination with clerks and Warehouse Team.
Respond promptly to warehouse requests for trailer swaps, empty trailer spotting, or urgent repositions.
Assist with spot‑checking seal numbers and trailer load status when requested.
Follow all yard flow protocols, traffic patterns, and speed limits.
Report any trailer defects or damage to the maintenance team for repair and red‑tagging.
Support yard sweeps and trailer count audits on a routine basis.
Inventory control if requested by Supervisor or Manager.
Required Skills
Proven experience as an Associate Reach Stacker operator.
Knowledge of yard operations and safety procedures.
Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Valid certifications or licenses required for operating reach stackers (if applicable).
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience in a similar role is highly desirable.
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
