Senior Pastor

Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, Longview, TX, United States

Pastor Profile Summary Macedonia Baptist Church is seeking a pastor who demonstrates a clear calling from God and a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The ideal candidate will be spiritually mature, humble, and committed to faithfully leading the church according to biblical teachings consistent with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. He should model a life devoted to prayer, study of God’s Word, and dependence upon the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

The congregation desires a pastor who faithfully preaches and teaches Scripture, helping believers grow in spiritual maturity while encouraging the church to remain grounded in the truth of God’s Word. The preferred candidate will bring significant pastoral ministry experience, combining maturity with practical insight and the potential to serve the church long-term.

While age is not the primary consideration, the church seeks a pastor with the maturity, experience, and stability to provide effective leadership for many years. The church prefers a pastor who has received formal theological education. However, education alone is not the most important qualification. Greater importance is placed on a pastor’s biblical knowledge, commitment to sound doctrine, and evidence of God’s calling on his life.

The pastor should prioritize personal Bible study and prayer, sermon preparation, counseling and spiritual guidance, visiting church members, and promoting the ministries of the church. He should maintain a healthy balance between ministry and family life, being a faithful husband and, when applicable, a devoted father, while setting an example for the church. The pastor’s primary focus should remain on shepherding people and providing spiritual leadership, rather than on civic affairs, administrative responsibilities, or excessive meetings.

The church desires a pastor with a genuine shepherd’s heart who cares deeply for the congregation and is approachable, compassionate, and willing to invest time in the lives of church members. He should demonstrate humility, integrity, transparency, and servant leadership, while also providing strong spiritual guidance and encouraging unity within the church.

The pastor should work well with church leaders, staff, and volunteers, helping equip members to use their gifts in ministry. In addition, the church desires a pastor who has a heart for evangelism and outreach, leading the church in sharing the gospel and reaching the community for Christ. He should be personable and relatable, able to connect with people of all ages while communicating biblical truth clearly and effectively.

Overall, the church seeks a pastor who is a faithful shepherd, strong biblical teacher, and humble servant leader, committed to loving God, loving people, and leading the congregation to grow spiritually while fulfilling its mission to reach others with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Macedonia Baptist Church of Longview, Texas is a church family that values biblical preaching, heartfelt worship, and faithful engagement in the Great Commission. Chartered in 1899 with 37 members, Macedonia has a long history of gospel ministry in our community. Our longest‑tenured pastor served from 1968 to 1997, and since that time the church has been led by three pastors. In March 1997, Macedonia joined the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention.

Over the years, God has blessed Macedonia with seasons of significant growth. In 2004, church membership reached a high of 1,974, with an average worship attendance of 800 and an average small group attendance of 571. Forty people were baptized that year, and the church celebrated its highest number of baptisms—62—in 2006. Like many churches across the country, Macedonia has experienced changes in attendance and membership since that time.

In 2022, when the church had a full staff, membership totaled approximately 900 people. Average worship attendance was 270, with an average of 217 participating in small groups, and 13 people were baptized that year. By 2025, average Sunday morning worship attendance was 179.

In 2024, our pastor and most of the support staff resigned, creating a significant season of transition for the church. During this time, the faith and commitment of the congregation have been clearly demonstrated. Church members stepped forward to volunteer their time and abilities—assisting with office responsibilities, maintaining the facilities, and caring for the church grounds. This season has highlighted the strength, unity, and servant‑hearted spirit of the Macedonia church family.

Under the leadership and ministry of our interim pastor, Macedonia has begun to see encouraging signs of renewal, including gradual increases in both attendance and giving. While financial giving has not yet returned to levels seen in previous years, the church has remained financially responsible and has been able to meet its commitments. In 2025, giving totaled $723,163 against a budget of $724,813. In earlier years, church budgets were approximately $1.2 million.

Today, Macedonia continues to look forward with faith and anticipation. In a typical worship service, approximately 56% of attendees are age 40 and older, though just a few years ago the average age of our congregation was younger. Our congregation is currently composed of approximately 98% Anglo attendees, with less than 1% Hispanic and less than 1% African American.

Macedonia is a warm and welcoming church family that is deeply committed to the authority of Scripture, expository preaching, and meaningful community ministry. We desire to reach the next generations in our community and to faithfully carry out the Great Commission in Longview and beyond.

As we seek God’s direction for the future, we are prayerfully anticipating how He will lead Macedonia Baptist Church through the leadership of our next senior pastor and are excited about the opportunities ahead for renewed growth, discipleship, and gospel impact.
