
Cybersecurity Intern

Purpose
The Cybersecurity Intern supports the security team in strengthening endpoint, identity, and detection controls by assisting with EDR, SIEM, vulnerability management, and security awareness initiatives. This role provides hands‑on exposure to real‑world cybersecurity operations while building foundational skills in monitoring, investigation, and risk reduction.
Duties And Responsibilities
Monitor SIEM and EDR alerts, support initial triage and documentation of findings
Investigate security events and escape issues according to established runbooks
Support basic threat hunting activities under guidance from senior analysts
Assist with maintaining EDR agent health and policy checks
Participate in vulnerability scanning efforts (track remediation progress)
Support identity and access reviews, including MFA and privileged access audits
Assist in executing phishing simulations and security awareness campaigns
Document procedures, incident notes, and knowledge base updates
Support audit preparation activities, including evidence collection and organization
Learn and assist in developing basic SIEM queries and dashboards
Education Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience
Coursework, labs, internships, or personal projects in cybersecurity or IT
Exposure to one or more of the following areas is preferred:
Basic networking and system administration
Security tools (SIEM, EDR, vulnerability scanners)
Scripting fundamentals (PowerShell, Python, or similar)
Familiarity with Windows environments and basic security concepts
Skills/Knowledge
Foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles
CIA triad, least privilege, and basic threat concepts
Awareness of common security frameworks (NIST, CIS Controls)
Basic analytical and problem‑solving skills
Ability to document findings clearly and communicate effectively
Willingness to learn security tools and techniques in a hands‑on environment
Other
Strong curiosity and interest in cybersecurity
Ability to follow processes and ask questions when unsure
Works well in a team environment and takes direction from senior staff
Demonstrates attention to detail and accountability for assigned tasks
Language Skills Must be able to read and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence and memos, and the ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

Occasional exposure to the elements may occur while visiting Maxim locations or customer job sites. Must be alert and aware while driving on company business.
