Position Summary
The Sales and Marketing Manager is responsible for all aspects of private party sales as well as driving overall restaurant sales in the community through marketing, advertising, and promotions. This position is a leader who sets a professional example and adheres to restaurant standards. Responsibilities include meeting budgeted banquet sales goals and overall restaurant sales goals and executing a well‑developed annual marketing plan.
General Job Requirements
Must be certified as a host at a minimum; salesperson certification as a server is recommended.
Demonstrates attentiveness to guests’ needs and ensures they are fulfilled.
Always demonstrates courtesy and a positive attitude toward guests.
Uses guest names and recognizes guests by name.
As a leader, displays a professional and positive attitude and enforces the complaint resolution procedure.
Ensures proper storage of equipment and assists in maintaining neat storage rooms.
Completes any other reasonable request made by a supervisor in a reasonable time frame.
Maintains business appearance and follows all dress code requirements.
Wine Tastings and Dinners
Plans and executes wine tastings and events in conjunction with the Beverage Manager.
Sets up rooms for events according to banquet execution standards.
Meets with the culinary team on menu, prepares BEOs and posts per standards.
Provides on‑site assistance at events to greet guests and ensure smooth banquet execution.
Banquet Sales
Responsible for meeting budgeted sales goals for the restaurant.
Actively prospects for banquet sales, calling on and visiting businesses in the community.
Greets all significant parties and ensures their satisfaction, including weekend events.
Proficient in catering sales software and follows all SOP standards.
Ensures all events have signed catering contracts with terms and conditions.
Adheres to guarantee and cancellation policies, waiving only with GM approval.
Makes sure banquet BEOs are posted in the restaurant by Friday for the following week.
Maintains an accurate public online banquet calendar up to 30 days out.
Keeps the Open Table system updated with upcoming banquets.
Keeps restaurant staff informed of changes to pre‑existing BEOs through regular meetings.
Follows up with banquet guest leads in a timely fashion to ensure satisfaction.
Follows up on completed banquets with thank‑you notes.
Creates new sales leads and follows up to meet budgeted banquet sales goals.
Manages banquet execution and follows all banquet execution standards.
Marketing
Performs marketing, advertising, and public relations tasks to promote banquet and overall restaurant sales.
Manages a highly effective hotel concierge program.
Serves as a member of local community organizations and attends regular meetings to drive sales.
Engages in community involvement and networking, staying visible in the community.
Works with the general manager to write and execute an annual restaurant marketing plan, including projects to promote banquets and overall sales.
Plans at least one special event per month as part of the marketing plan.
Plans, organizes, promotes, and executes holidays and special events to increase overall sales.
Engages in effective electronic marketing: social media, dining websites, email database, website updates, etc., coordinating with graphic/website designer and submitting weekly promotion plans.
Understands the principles of effective restaurant marketing provided in training and always follows the guidelines.
Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED is mandatory.
A bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, marketing, business, or related field is preferred; equivalent work experience may be considered.
At least 2 years of previous related experience in direct sales is necessary (generating leads, closing deals, cold‑calling, etc.).
Excellent writing and public speaking skills are required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Effectively communicates with customers, using tact and diplomacy.
Capable of carrying objects on a tray without breaking or spilling.
Follows directions accurately.
Physical/Mental Demands
Required to be on feet for a large portion of the shift.
Must lift and move heavy objects, including tables and beverage cases; can lift approximately 20 pounds overhead.
Must sustain constant mental and visual attention.
Working Conditions
Works in a kitchen environment, including hot areas, hot tools, hot plates, and sharp knives.
Flexible schedule may vary week to week; work required on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
