Sells general merchandise to customers using professional selling techniques. Works as part of a sales team to provide service which anticipates and exceeds customer expectations. Assists in all aspects of ensuring full operation of the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar, including opening and closing, preparing, displaying, replenishing goods, and cleaning stations and equipment as necessary. Responsibilities
Operate the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar as applicable for Minimarts. Greets and engages customers, assists in selecting merchandise, and suggests additional items to complement selections. Offer with customers the opportunity to purchase extended product warranties and explain coverage benefits and price where applicable. Interact with customers and coworkers in a friendly and professional manner, adhering to NEX dress code and supporting sales team members to the maximum extent possible. Become knowledgeable about merchandise including setup, use, care, product characteristics, price points, and warranty coverage; communicate product information clearly to customers. Maintain stocked, neatly arranged merchandise; communicate stock needs and customer preferences to supervisors. Participate in department meetings and seek ideas for improving customer service and sales performance. Complete sales transactions efficiently and thank customers for their patronage; perform cash register transactions as required (cash, charge, check, gift certificates, layaway, etc.). Advise customers of upcoming sales events and services available through the Navy Exchange (NEX), such as gift wrapping, engraving, delivery, gift certificates, etc.; inform customers about NEXCARD benefits. Understand NEX store policies, including merchandising systems, returns, price matching, and check cashing; handle returns tactfully and efficiently. Maintain awareness in assigned areas to deter theft and provide excellent customer service. Unpack, stage, and move merchandise; assist in creating store displays and periodic inventories. Complete paperwork related to merchandise movement, price adjustments, returns, and cash register operation accurately. Eligible for and participate in applicable commission and gainsharing sales incentive programs. Lift up to 25 lbs as it relates to job duties (e.g., assisting customers, stocking). Open and close the Food and Beverage Convenience Bar and ensure equipment is properly powered on/off; preheat and display products in heated displays as required. Ensure sufficient goods are available by replenishing products and condiments; ensure items are time-dated at close where applicable; maintain food safety and cleanliness standards. Monitor temperatures of refrigerators and freezers at least three times daily; attend a 4-hour food safety training session initially and annual refresher thereafter. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications
No experience required. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
