Wine Club & Phone Sales Associate
Tasting Room Expo, Sonoma, CA, United States
Overview
At Obsidian Wine Company, we make wines and experiences for curious and adventurous people. Our small team is made up of clever, hard-working people who like to explore, collaborate, and challenge boundaries. We are committed to a culture of innovation, kindness, and integrity. We look forward to hearing your unique story and experience.
About the Role We’re seeking a personable, detail-oriented team member to join our direct-to-consumer (DtC) team—someone who creates community and connections, not just transactions. This role is centered around supporting our Obsidian community by phone, text, and email—connecting, listening, and helping people discover wines that feel right for them. It’s a high-volume inbound and outbound sales & service role, but it shouldn’t feel like a call center. Think of it as virtual hospitality involving ongoing conversations with club members, frequent customers—i.e., people who already share an interest in what we do.
You’ll guide customers naturally, offering thoughtful, personal recommendations and building relationships over time. Alongside sales outreach, you’ll support wine club operations, customer service, and fulfillment—and occasionally National Sales—working closely with our Customer Relations Director and DtC Coordinator to support ongoing engagement with our wine club and mailing list members.
If you’re interested, there also may be an opportunity to spend time working at our Base Camp Tasting Room alongside the team.
Culture We’re a small, close-knit team, connected by shared work and shared purpose—even while spread across different locations. There’s a sense of ownership in how we work: everyone contributes, everyone pitches in, and no role is isolated. We value people who are thoughtful, reliable, and self-directed—people who bring care to their work, are organized, and feel comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
Connect with customers by phone and in writing to help them discover wines they’ll love and stay engaged with Obsidian.
Provide warm, attentive customer service via phone and email
Assist with order processing, follow-up, and general inquiries
Support shipping and fulfillment operations
Provide administrative support for day-to-day operations
Assist with team projects and general office needs
Work occasional events as needed
Other duties as they arise
Qualifications
Prior experience in wine sales, phone sales, customer service, hospitality and/or wine clubs is a plus
Strong communication skills, especially over the phone, with a natural, service-oriented approach
Ability to guide conversations comfortably and confidently without feeling scripted or pushy
Clear, professional writing skills for email communication
Highly organized with strong attention to detail
Reliable, proactive, and able to follow through independently
Positive attitude and steady work ethic
Confident navigating spreadsheets, customer databases, and internal systems
Able to work independently while staying connected to a small team
Familiarity with Commerce7 and Wine Direct Fulfillment is helpful but not required
Ability to lift 40–50 lbs
Interest in wine
Additional Details
Part-time: 8–12 hours per week
Potential to temporarily increase to 30+ hours/week for high season/a colleague’s leave (preferred)
This role may occasionally include weekend events or hours outside a standard Monday–Friday schedule.
The role is onsite initially, and may eventually become partially remote, supported by a shared desk setup in the office.
There may be opportunities for additional hours in the tasting room, if available and of interest.
