Petco Grooming Career Your Petco Grooming Career:

As a Pet Stylist you will provide professional grooming services, ensuring each pet receives exceptional care and looks their best. You’ll work with a state‑of‑the‑art grooming salon, fully equipped with bathing systems, kennels, tables and dryers.

Responsibilities

Perform professional grooming services—including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning—under moderate supervision and in accordance with pet‑parent instructions, breed standards, and company policies.

Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes and dryers.

Prioritize the well‑being and safety of every animal, monitoring for signs of discomfort, illness or injury and reporting concerns to pet owners and store management.

Assess individual pet needs based on coat type and temperament, and provide customized grooming recommendations.

Interact professionally with pet parents, offering guidance, answering inquiries and ensuring timely resolution of questions or concerns.

Maintain a clean, safe grooming area—disinfecting tools, sanitizing equipment, and performing daily and weekly cleaning duties following Petco hygiene and sanitation policies.

Assist in training and supervising entry‑level trainees in the absence of a Grooming Salon Leader.

Qualifications

Successful completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or prior experience as a professional groomer and/or completion of a grooming training program.

High‑school diploma or GED preferred, though not required.

Strong problem‑solving skills, independent judgement and the ability to handle routine to moderately complex grooming situations.

Commitment to productivity, performance and ownership of the grooming role.

Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills for interactions with pet parents and team members.

Passion for animals and a desire to continue a career in pet grooming.

Knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues and behavior.

Capability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.

Availability to work weekends, evenings and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.

Work Environment The majority of duties are conducted indoors. The role requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds and standing for long periods. Exposure to heights and use of a two‑step ladder or vacuums for cleaning duties may occur. Working with pet parents and dogs is a major part of the job; noise and moisture are common.

Salary Range Salary Range:

$15.00 – $23.00 per hour
