Petco Grooming Career
As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will be responsible for providing professional grooming services to our valued customers' pets. With your expertise and attention to detail, you will ensure that each pet receives exceptional care, leaving them looking and feeling their best.
Job Responsibilities
Perform professional grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, according to pet parent’s instructions and Petco policies.
Operate and maintain grooming instruments such as clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
Prioritize the welfare and safety of every animal; monitor pets for discomfort, illness, or injury and report concerns promptly.
Assess each pet’s needs based on coat type, skin condition, and temperament and adjust grooming accordingly.
Provide excellent customer service to pet parents, answering questions, offering recommendations, and resolving concerns.
Educate pet parents on at‑home grooming maintenance and product use.
Maintain a clean and safe grooming salon; disinfect tools and equipment and perform routine and weekly cleaning tasks.
Apply Petco grooming policies and standards to ensure consistency and quality.
Support and supervise entry‑level trainees when needed.
Education & Experience
Completion of the Pet Stylist Apprentice program with Petco, or prior professional grooming experience and/or grooming technical training.
High‑school diploma or GED preferred; not required.
Demonstrated judgment, problem‑solving, and independence in handling routine to moderately complex grooming tasks.
Results‑driven with commitment to productivity and ownership of grooming responsibilities.
Strong attention to detail and passion for animals.
Expertise in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards.
Excellent verbal and written communication for interacting with pet parents and team members.
Capability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy.
Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as required by the grooming schedule.
Work Environment The role is performed indoors in a grooming salon and requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 lb), and standing for long periods. Tasks may involve exposure to heights and use of tools such as vacuums. The environment can be noisy and wet.
