Director of Business Analytics

Position Summary The Director of Business Analytics is a senior strategic leader who transforms complex data and business challenges into clear, actionable insights that drive enterprise performance.

Sitting at the intersection of finance, operations, and strategy, this role goes beyond traditional FP&A to partner with leaders across the organization—diagnosing problems, building analytical frameworks, and influencing decisions that shape the future of the business.

This leader brings intellectual curiosity, financial rigor, and strong business acumen to bear on the organization’s most pressing questions. They build and lead a high‑performing analytics team, champion a data‑driven culture, and ensure that insight—not assumption—underpins every major business decision.

Reports To: CFO

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Business Problem-Solving

Identify, frame, and lead the analytical resolution of complex, high-impact business problems across functions, including operations, sales, supply chain, marketing, and customer experience.

Serve as a trusted thought partner to executive and senior leadership, translating ambiguous strategic questions into structured analyses and clear recommendations.

Lead scenario planning, sensitivity analyses, and business case development to support major initiatives, investments, and organizational decisions.

Proactively surface emerging risks and opportunities through ongoing monitoring of business performance and market dynamics.

2. Financial Planning & Analysis

Oversee the development of annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long‑range financial plans in collaboration with Finance leadership.

Conduct variance analysis across P&L, operational, and KPI metrics to identify performance gaps and recommend corrective action.

Build and maintain sophisticated financial models that support capital allocation decisions, pricing strategies, and growth planning.

Present financial outlooks and performance results to executives and board members with clarity and strategic context.

3. Enterprise Analytics & Insights

Design and own the organization’s analytics strategy, including the frameworks, methodologies, and tools used to measure and interpret business performance.

Develop and maintain enterprise KPI dashboards, executive scorecards, and self‑serve reporting infrastructure that empower data‑driven decision‑making at all levels.

Apply advanced analytical techniques—including statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and machine learning where applicable—to generate forward‑looking insights.

Analyze customer, market, and operational data to uncover trends, behavioral patterns, and revenue opportunities.

4. Cross‑Functional Partnership & Influence

Partner deeply with business unit leaders, operations, sales, marketing, HR, and technology to embed analytical thinking into key workflows and decisions.

Translate data findings into compelling narratives and presentations that resonate with both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Champion a culture of data literacy across the organization, providing education, tools, and frameworks that enable teams to leverage data independently.

Align analytics priorities with enterprise strategy by maintaining a roadmap of high‑value analytical initiatives.

5. Team Leadership & Development

Build, manage, and mentor a diverse team of analysts, data scientists, and FP&A professionals, fostering a culture of intellectual rigor and continuous learning.

Set clear goals, prioritize team capacity, and ensure delivery of high‑quality analytical work at pace.

Evaluate, implement, and optimize analytical tools, platforms, and processes to increase team effectiveness and scalability.

Recruit and develop top analytics talent in alignment with the organization’s long‑term capability needs.

6. Reporting & Data Governance

Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all financial and operational reports in accordance with regulatory and internal standards.

Establish and enforce data governance practices that support reliable, consistent, and trustworthy analytics across the organization.

Define and maintain a single source of truth for key business metrics to resolve definitional inconsistencies across teams.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, Data Science, or a related field required.

MBA or advanced degree (MS in Analytics, Data Science, or related) strongly preferred.

Experience

10+ years of progressive experience in business analytics, FP&A, management consulting, or a related strategic finance/analytics function.

5+ years in a leadership role managing analysts or cross‑functional teams.

Demonstrated track record of solving complex, ambiguous business problems using data and analytical frameworks.

Experience presenting to C‑suite executives and board members.

Background in or strong familiarity with financial planning, budgeting, and P&L management.

Skills & Competencies

Exceptional analytical and quantitative reasoning skills with a talent for simplifying complexity.

Advanced financial modeling and forecasting capabilities.

Proficiency in SQL and data querying; experience with Python or R is a plus.

Expert‑level experience with BI and visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Looker).

Hands‑on experience with ERP and FP&A systems (e.g., Workday, SAP, Adaptive Insights, Anaplan, NetSuite).

Outstanding communication and storytelling skills — ability to turn data into decisions.

Strong executive presence with the ability to influence without direct authority.

High intellectual curiosity and a bias toward action and impact.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid‑eligible position with the expectation of regular on‑site presence.

Occasional travel may be required for leadership off‑sites, board meetings, or cross‑functional collaboration.

The role operates in a fast‑paced environment and requires comfort with ambiguity and competing priorities.
