Role Overview Shooki is looking for a Volunteer Social Media Manager to help grow our brand across social media platforms through creative content, community engagement, and local storytelling. This is an unpaid remote opportunity, ideal for someone based in Detroit or Metro Detroit who wants hands‑on startup experience in social media marketing, content creation, digital marketing, brand growth, and community building.
In this role, you will help create and manage content for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Reddit, and other social channels, while also helping generate local content around bathrooms in and around Detroit. That includes visiting locations, capturing photos, writing short reviews, assigning star ratings, and helping turn those experiences into engaging social media posts and brand content.
This role is perfect for an aspiring Social Media Manager, Content Creator, Digital Marketer, Community Manager, Brand Marketing Coordinator, UGC Creator, or Marketing student looking to build a portfolio and gain real ownership inside a creative early‑stage startup.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support Shooki’s day‑to‑day social media marketing efforts across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, X, LinkedIn, and Reddit.
Create engaging social media content, including captions, short‑form posts, photo‑based content, review content, and community‑focused storytelling.
Visit bathrooms and public restroom locations in Detroit and Metro Detroit to document real experiences through star ratings, written reviews, photos, and content ideas.
Help develop a consistent content strategy that supports brand awareness, community engagement, app downloads, and startup growth.
Capture and organize user‑generated style content, local review content, and Detroit‑focused lifestyle content.
Schedule posts, maintain a content calendar, and help ensure consistency in voice, tone, and posting cadence.
Engage with followers, respond to comments and messages, and help build a strong and authentic community presence.
Track social media performance metrics, engagement, content trends, and audience behavior to improve future content.
Identify trends in social media marketing, Detroit culture, consumer apps, and creator content to keep the brand relevant and scroll‑stopping.
Collaborate with the founder or team on brand messaging, growth ideas, campaign concepts, and promotional initiatives.
Qualifications
Strong interest or experience in social media management, content creation, digital marketing, community management, or brand marketing.
Comfortable creating content for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, Reddit, and LinkedIn.
Strong writing and communication skills, especially for short‑form, engaging, social‑first content.
Ability to create or contribute to content strategy, social media campaigns, and brand storytelling.
Interest in Detroit culture, local businesses, consumer apps, startup environments, and community‑based content.
Comfortable visiting locations in Detroit or Metro Detroit and documenting experiences through reviews, photos, and observations.
Familiarity with social media analytics, engagement tracking, and performance optimization is a plus.
Experience with Canva, video editing apps, mobile content creation tools, or light design work is a plus.
Self‑starter mindset with strong organization, creativity, and ability to work independently in a remote startup environment.
Prior experience in social media marketing, influencer marketing, community growth, content creation, photography, or UGC is helpful but not required.
