Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine . This full‑time role provides strategic leadership and oversight for all aspects of Sports Medicine within the Department of Athletics and reports to the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Student‑Athlete Resources and SWA.
The Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine plays a critical role in fostering a safe, healthy, and high‑performing environment for student‑athletes. This position collaborates closely with coaches, athletic staff, healthcare providers, and campus partners to ensure comprehensive care, injury prevention, and effective treatment. The role also serves as a key resource for addressing student‑athlete health needs that extend beyond the scope of athletic training.
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership and strategic direction for all Sports Medicine and Athletic Training operations
Oversee insurance coverage, staffing, budgeting, and compliance with NCAA guidelines
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and best practices related to student‑athlete health and safety
Collaborate with Strength and Conditioning staff on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and return‑to‑play protocols
Maintain regular communication with coaches and staff to support student‑athlete well‑being
Serve as a referral resource for student‑athlete health needs, including physical and mental health concerns
Provide direct athletic training coverage for assigned sports programs
Oversee athletic training operations at the Cintas Center and Heidt Family Champions Center
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Athletic Training or a related field
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in intercollegiate athletic training
Certification and licensure (or eligibility) to practice in the state of Ohio
Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders, including student‑athletes, coaches, administrators, and healthcare providers
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Experience with electronic medical records and relevant technologies
Working knowledge of NCAA regulations, including concussion protocols
Thorough understanding of HIPAA and FERPA compliance
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in Division I athletics
Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures
Demonstrated success supervising and mentoring staff
