This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company's locations: The Hills, set outside of East Quogue, New York. The Hills is seeking a seasonal Kitchen Porter to join the Culinary Department. This position will be available from April 20 to October 12, 2026.
Key Responsibilities
Work with all culinary and F&B leaders to create exemplary culinary standards and an environment of continual improvement.
Always keep all food preparation areas meticulously clean and tidy; maintain safe and sanitary conditions in all food service areas and for all food service equipment.
Provide courteous and professional service as well as proper care, movement, and storage of all kitchen related equipment.
Demonstrate full working COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) knowledge and adhere to all safety measures when using cleaning materials.
Ensure all kitchens are well maintained and cleaned prior to and/or after each daily operation, including swift and hygienic garbage removal.
Assist with inventory control of catering equipment and plateware.
Demonstrate full knowledge of cleaning products and keep these areas properly stocked and cleaned.
Control linen usage across kitchens, removing soiled items for laundry and refreshing stocks with new inventory as needed.
Assist culinary staff when needed and perform side work, cleaning, and organizing as required.
Communicate with supervisor verbally and through written communication throughout the shift to ensure proper notification and follow‑through of assigned tasks.
Provide prompt, courteous service to culinary and F&B team members while maintaining a friendly and pleasant atmosphere.
Safely drive and maintain vehicles available for transporting catering materials.
Ensure kitchen areas are well maintained and cleaned before and after events and assist with inventory control of cleaning equipment.
Properly use and dispose of chemicals when conducting area cleaning.
Conduct bio‑hazard clean‑up.
Qualifications
Prior experience and proven success in the hospitality or service industry is strongly preferred.
Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
Meet the physical demands of the position, including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours.
Must have ability to move, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, push, pull, lift, grasp, talk, hear, perform repetitive motions, lift/carry/push/pull or otherwise move objects and/or move up to 75 pounds occasionally.
Flexibility and ability to pivot to new projects and a desire to work in a fast‑paced environment.
