Job Profile Summary Inspects, maintains, and repairs intermediate to complex equipment and facilities to ensure property meets established standards and to prevent further damage.

Job Responsibilities

Supervise, assign tasks, and monitor the daily activities of a grounds maintenance crew.

Receive instructions from Supervisor and follow maintenance schedule pertaining to the assigned area.

Keep daily work logs and assist Supervisor with digital data entry into departmental work order system.

Be able to identify public safety issues and mitigate these situations appropriately.

Ensure adherence to safety regulations.

Monitor equipment performance and notify Supervisor of any concerns or issues.

Ensure regular preventative maintenance is performed on all tools and equipment in your care.

Ensure crew is staying on task and on schedule every day.

Assist with any task to ensure daily schedule is completed on time.

Conduct training to subordinates under your direct supervision.

Responsible for quality control in assigned areas.

Clearly communicate to perform essential duties of the job.

Use work order systems (TMA).

Specific To Landscape Crew

Maintain trees, shrubs, and ground cover in assigned areas on campus to ASU standards.

Operate power tools.

Assist with installation and enhancement projects, as needed.

Assist with turf fertilization and flower planting, as needed.

Apply herbicides (liquid and/or granular) when and where needed to suppress weed growth.

Ensure all trash receptacles in assigned area are emptied and kept in a clean and presentable condition.

Monitor overall health of plant material and report any deficiencies and pest problems to Supervisor.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Days and Schedule Monday – Friday, 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM.

Salary Range $22.80 – $24.50 commensurate with experience and education.

Desired Qualifications Must have years of grounds maintenance related work experience including one (1) year of lead experience; OR, Associate’s degree in Horticulture or related field AND three (3) years of grounds maintenance related work experience including one year of lead experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Employee may be required to possess a valid U.S. driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Experience In

General turf care.

Mowing and overseeding practices.

Operating turf maintenance equipment and riding mowers.

Underground sprinkler repair and/or installation.

Design and/or redesign of irrigation systems.

Grounds maintenance in a university/higher education setting.

Knowledge Of

Principles of horticulture.

Principles, practices and/or techniques of grounds maintenance.

Work order systems (TMA).

Evidence of effective communication skills.

Working Environment Activities regularly require long periods of exposure to external elements indigenous to a desert environment; weather; and potential exposure to venomous insects, insecticides, herbicides and fertilizers. Regularly required to operate a variety of landscaping equipment, tools and machines requiring extended periods of walking over uneven and occasionally rocky surfaces, stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds. Regular use of mowers, trimmers, edgers, shears, spreaders, hoses, hand and power tools/machines. Stand for long periods of time. Walk and inspect campus. Drive university vehicle/cart. May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator). Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use.
