Position Overview The Head Golf Coach is responsible for leading and developing a competitive high school Golf program that emphasizes athletic excellence, character development, and academic achievement. This position requires a passionate and knowledgeable coach who can inspire student‑athletes while fostering a culture of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement a comprehensive Golf program philosophy and strategic plan
Establish short‑term and long‑term goals for program growth and competitive success
Develop age‑appropriate training progressions from freshman through varsity level
Build and maintain program culture centered on excellence, integrity, and respect
Oversee assistant coaches and ensure alignment with program philosophy
Coordinate practice sessions and training programs with an emphasis on athletic growth and development, as well as safety
Plan and conduct effective practices that develop technical skills, tactical knowledge, and physical conditioning
Teach fundamental and advanced Golf techniques including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, and defensive skills
Develop game strategies and make in‑game adjustments based on opponent analysis
Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement
Create individualized development plans for student‑athletes
Conduct pre‑season conditioning and skill development sessions
Attend all practices, games, and tournaments
Select team rosters through fair and transparent tryout processes
Determine player positions, rotations, and playing time
Work with athletic director to manage practice schedules, competition schedules, and travel logistics
Responsible for student‑athletes during practice, travel, and games
Maintain accurate records including statistics, rosters, and eligibility documentation
Ensure proper care and inventory of equipment and uniforms
Communicate effectively with team members regarding expectations, schedules, and performance
Promote a positive attitude, academic achievement, and personal growth
Mentor student‑athletes in developing leadership skills, work ethic, and resilience
Support student‑athletes’ personal growth and character development
Foster an inclusive team environment that values diversity and mutual respect
Serve as a positive role model in conduct, sportsmanship, and professionalism
Communication & Community Relations
Maintain consistent, ongoing communication with parents and players regarding program expectations, schedules, and progress
Collaborate with athletic department staff, school administration, and faculty
Promote the Golf program within the school and broader community
Represent the school professionally at all athletic events and functions
Abide by and follow MSHSAA (Missouri State High School Activities Association) guidelines and rules
Comply with all Notre Dame de Sion Schools policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with league, state, and national governing body rules and regulations
Verify student‑athlete eligibility
Complete required coaching education and certification requirements
Submit equipment requests 3–6 months prior to start of season
Update Hudl and Max Preps regularly
Maintain safety protocols and emergency action plans
Document incidents and maintain appropriate insurance coverage
Qualifications
Minimum of two (2) years of experience coaching Golf and teaching Golf skills and strategies appropriate to the skill level of the players
Experience in developing high school Golf programs and players
Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position
Evidenced ability to maintain and consistently exemplify the highest standards of educational professionalism, leadership, sportsmanship, and respect
Demonstrated ability to effectively work with students, staff, administration, and parents with proven organizational and motivational skills
Strong knowledge of Golf rules, strategies, and skill development
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of students, parents, and staff
Commitment to academic and athletic excellence
Valid background check clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Four‑year degree in education, physical education, sports management, or related field
3+ years of head coaching experience in a competitive program
Previous playing experience at competitive level
Current coaching certification
Experience with video analysis and performance tracking software
Demonstrated success in player development and competitive achievement
Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles
Experience with college recruiting processes
