Property Accounting Director (Hybrid) Houston, TX

Position Description This position will be responsible for leading the property team in Colorado Springs that handles the Natural Gas and Corporate segments. The candidate will be involved with review and/or approval related to monthly accounting close, income/expense variance analysis, account reconciliations and internal/external reporting. We offer a hybrid work schedule (Monday through Wednesday in office, Thursday and Friday remote). Work location is Houston Headquarters.

Responsibilities

Manage the accounting staff of eleven, including performance assessment, professional development, and organization planning.

Build and lead the team to drive continuous improvement in systems, processes, and performance standards, working with natural gas and corporate accounting teams as needed.

Oversee the fixed asset and project areas to ensure compliance with FERC and GAAP.

Oversee the month‑end accounting close, and review budget and forecast depreciation variance analysis.

Review and approve journal entries and account balance sheet reconciliations as needed.

Monitor capital construction projects to confirm timely closes to fixed assets.

Assist in reimbursable project tracking and billings for the natural gas segment.

Oversee the preparation of natural gas property footnotes for SEC and GAAP reporting, and prepare natural gas property pages for FERC Form 2 reporting.

Perform various reporting and analysis tasks as needed.

Ensure compliance with internal controls and Sarbanes‑Oxley requirements.

Learn and apply processes and systems within the Property Accounting Department, including CARS, PSA, Lawson Query Tool, and Lawson Reports.

Be a power user of KM’s financial software (Lawson) in activities, assets, and journal entries.

Respond timely to data requests from internal and external auditors, tax departments, and others.

Develop and maintain positive working relationships with customers, managers, and employees both within and outside the department.

Work closely with other Property areas in Houston handling CO2, Terminals, and Products segments, including consolidated reports for auditors.

Deal with a wide variety of people with tact, courtesy, and professionalism.

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Maintain regular attendance and a high level of professionalism.

May be required to work non‑traditional hours, including holidays.

Position Requirements

10 or more years of accounting experience.

5 or more years of managerial experience.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred.

Strong knowledge of property accounting, specifically regulatory FERC property accounting.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to solve complex problems through solution‑oriented analysis and cost‑effective solutions.

Ability to work with all levels of the organization.

Self‑starter and initiative; able to perform duties with minimal supervision.

Ability to prioritize and organize large volumes of work, meeting strict deadlines.

Able to multi‑task, be meticulous, and have strong organizational skills.

Strong working knowledge of accounting systems; Lawson experience preferred.

Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook).

Position may be filled at various levels depending on experience and job skills of the successful candidate.
