
Recreation Leader *Revised*

The City of Ontario's Recreation and Community Services Department has an excellent part-time opportunity for highly motivated individuals to provide programming at a city park, community center, or other recreational areas within the City.
The Recreation Leader will be expected to provide customer service, offering information about programs and accepting registrations, as well as handling incoming calls. Other responsibilities for this position may include organizing and leading indoor and outdoor recreational activities such as sports, arts and crafts, and games; setting up and taking down equipment for events and programs; cleaning and maintaining park and facility areas, including trash removal.
The Recreation Leader is a part‑time/temporary position, scheduled to work no more than 29 hours per week, and is not eligible to participate in the City’s health insurance or retirement plans. Work schedule is determined by availability, operating hours and the incumbent’s skill level in this position.

The essential functions typically performed by the Recreation Leader include the following:
Leads and coordinates activities such as sports, arts and crafts, games, and special events.
Organizes and leads activities at a city park, community center, or other recreational areas within the City.
Oversees the work of volunteers.
Maintains records and prepares reports.
Performs score keeping, officiating, and field maintenance.
Inspects facilities for safety.
Oversees reservations at facilities.
Administers First Aid.
Assists public at counter/front desk; accepts registration; answers incoming calls.
Performs other job‑related duties and responsibilities as required.
Education Currently enrolled in high school OR equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience Recreation or customer service experience. Volunteer work, internships, involvement in school activities, participation in sports as an athlete or coach, event programming, and other relevant hobbies will be considered.
Desirable Currently participating as a volunteer with the City of Ontario Teen Action Committee or any equivalent combination of training.
Certification Selected positions may require the employee to obtain a Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification within a specified time period following their date of hire.
Special Requirement Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
NOTE: All potential hires are required to pass a fingerprint review and pre‑employment physical examination, including a tuberculosis (TB) test.
