Duties & Responsibilities The vegetable entomology research laboratory conducts investigations into how pest insects affect vegetable productivity in Georgia and how to best control these pests. Current tasks include maintaining insect (e.g., whitefly and diamondback moth) colonies, collecting and processing samples, and entering data. Specific responsibilities include:
Rapidly identifying and counting small insects under a stereo microscope.
Assisting with insect colonies and maintaining plant food for colonies.
Planting seeds/seedlings for colonies and research tests.
Scouting and performing other duties related to entomological field research.
Processing samples (frozen or in alcohol) on a scheduled weekly basis.
Checking colonies and plants twice weekly.
Participating in weekly lab meetings to determine additional duties.
Physical Demands Standing and using a microscope for extended periods, lifting soil tubs and standard potting trays with full pots, and driving are required.
