Assistant Director of Institutional Research This role supports the university’s mission by providing advanced data analysis, reporting, and strategic insights that inform decision‑making and foster institutional effectiveness. The primary focus is the development, implementation, and maintenance of a centralized university data system, as well as the preparation of standard and ad‑hoc reports to meet stakeholders’ evolving needs.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a centralized data system, contributing to ERP modernization initiatives, data governance discussions, and system transitions.

Design and develop integrated institutional data that aligns with stakeholders’ requirements.

Create interactive dashboards and reports using Tableau, Power‑BI, or similar visualisation tools.

Ensure data accuracy, security, and usability through protocols for data integrity and regular system updates.

Conduct analysis of institutional data for planning, evaluation, and assessment, working with colleagues across the university.

Provide routine and ad‑hoc analyses to support decision‑making, planning, accreditation, and compliance efforts.

Prepare standard reports (performance metrics, enrollment trends, retention analyses) and respond to custom data requests.

Partner with academic and administrative units to understand data needs and deliver actionable insights.

Consult end‑users on accessing and interpreting data, maintaining a positive customer‑service orientation within the office.

Monitor institutional research and data‑visualisation trends, recommending new tools and approaches as appropriate.

Serve as a research representative in university‑wide data governance and system‑modernisation efforts.

Lead and participate in special projects that support institutional goals and cross‑departmental collaborations.

Act as interim Director when the Director is unavailable.

Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and report any incidents to the supervisor.

Perform additional duties as assigned to meet evolving needs.

Qualifications

Master’s degree (or bachelor’s degree with equivalent advanced experience).

Experience analysing data from diverse sources and preparing reports for diverse audiences.

Proficiency with office, statistical, and reporting software (Tableau, Power‑BI, SAS, SPSS, SQL, R, etc.).

Experience with large‑scale relational databases (e.g., Banner) and ERP or SaaS platforms.

Familiarity with API integrations, data modelling (Star, Snowflake) and compliance reporting such as IPEDS.

Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer‑service skills.

High organisational and time‑management abilities, with the capacity to multitask under tight deadlines.

Strong information‑management skills and discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential data.

Education & Experience

Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree with work experience equivalent to an advanced degree.

Experience in institutional research or a college/university setting, including admissions, financial aid, student records, enrollment management, or related areas.

Experience with data extraction or report writing from relational databases and cloud‑based ERP.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Detail‑oriented with strong problem‑solving capabilities.

Interpersonal and communication skills geared toward data‑driven decision‑support.

Strong quantitative and analytical skills; proficient in data‑visualisation and statistical modelling.

Information‑management and retrieval expertise.

Computer proficiency across word‑processing, spreadsheets, reporting, and statistical software.

Organisational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Discretion with sensitive and confidential information.

Telework Eligibility This position is eligible for periodic telework as determined by the department. Eligibility is not guaranteed, is subject to supervisor approval, and may be modified or revoked at any time.
