Director, Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Opportunity Summary The Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) provides enterprise‑wide leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, and safety programs. This role ensures regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, and operational excellence across company facilities, with a strong emphasis on California environmental and occupational safety regulations. The Director serves as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and drives a proactive safety culture aligned with company values and regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Governance

Lead the design and execution of the company’s EHS strategy to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, with deep working knowledge of state specific requirements (e.g., Cal/OSHA, CARB, DTSC, CUPA).

Establish policies, standards, and procedures that strengthen environmental stewardship, workplace safety, and regulatory readiness.

Serve as a subject‑matter expert and trusted advisor to executive leadership on EHS risk, compliance, and performance trends.

Compliance & Risk Management

Direct environmental and safety audits, site assessments, investigations, and corrective action plans.

Evaluate new and evolving regulations and assess their impact on current and future operations, with particular focus on state regulatory changes.

Develop and oversee compliance strategies to proactively address regulatory obligations and minimize operational risk.

Safety Culture & Operational Excellence

Champion a proactive, values‑based safety culture across all operations.

Lead accident investigation programs, analyze trends, and implement prevention strategies to improve performance and reduce incidents.

Ensure consistent application of EHS programs across locations through training, coaching, and operational support.

Environmental Programs & Monitoring

Oversee environmental risk assessments and remediation activities to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

Direct sampling, monitoring, and reporting programs related to air, land, and water compliance.

Interpret technical data and advise leadership on compliance status, environmental impact, and risk exposure.

Vendor & Agency Interface

Act as primary liaison with regulatory agencies, auditors, and external vendors to ensure alignment with contractual scope and regulatory requirements.

Prepare and present technical documentation and reports for internal leadership and external regulators.

People Leadership

Lead and develop EHS staff, including mentoring, performance management, and capability building.

Set clear expectations, allocate resources, and ensure team accountability in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year institution required; advanced degree preferred.

Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS experience, including leadership at a manager or director level.

Demonstrated expertise in state specific (i.e. California) environmental and occupational safety regulations required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Expert knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations and best practices.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.

Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to executive and operational audiences.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Exposure to industrial environments including mechanical equipment, chemicals, and outdoor conditions.

Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical activities consistent with site inspections and assessments.
