Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Senior Civil Designer
for a contract-to-hire opportunity in
Kansas City, MO . This position will play a key role in leading various phases of civil design projects, including planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, analytical design, report preparation, specifications, and construction documentation.
The Senior Civil Designer will work within a multi-disciplinary project team supporting a diverse portfolio of projects and clients. This role requires strong technical design expertise, leadership capabilities, and the ability to mentor junior staff while ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Lead civil engineering design efforts including
site development, land development, roadway design, storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utilities, sediment and erosion control, traffic control, airport projects, and facility site design .
Lead drawing production including
problem analysis, design layouts, and calculations
for complex and non-routine assignments.
Execute and oversee design tasks using established methods and industry-standard techniques including drawing sequencing, presentation, and system component sizing.
Lead and perform
quality reviews of design drawings, sketches, and redlines
for ongoing projects.
Analyze and present
reports, maps, drawings, and topographical and geologic data
to support project planning and design.
Interpret and apply
design codes, standards, and specifications
to ensure compliance with project requirements.
Ensure design deliverables are completed
within scope, schedule, and budget .
Review and verify
volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and upland site grading .
Incorporate
project schedules, budgets, and design criteria
into civil design layouts to meet project financial goals.
Maintain and organize all
project drawings, revisions, plot files, and related documentation
in a structured format.
Train, mentor, and support development of junior design staff .
Participate in
marketing initiatives and client development meetings .
Lead and enforce the
civil design QA/QC process .
Collaborate with
project managers, engineers, and other designers
in a multi-disciplinary team environment to resolve design challenges.
Perform additional duties as assigned while complying with all company policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or a related field with 13+ years of relevant experience , OR
Associate Degree with 14+ years of related experience , OR
15+ years of progressive civil detailing and design experience
(field experience preferred).
Advanced proficiency in
design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Microsoft Excel .
Advanced knowledge of
civil engineering design principles, calculations, and design systems .
Strong understanding of
civil engineering theory and practices , with familiarity of related engineering disciplines.
Experience working in
multi-disciplinary project teams
alongside engineers, project managers, and designers.
Excellent
communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills .
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple project priorities.
Preferred Skills
Experience mentoring or supervising junior designers.
Experience supporting large-scale infrastructure, site development, or industrial projects.
Strong understanding of
civil design QA/QC processes .
