Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Piping Designer
for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Kansas City, MO. This role will support a diverse portfolio of industrial and infrastructure projects, performing various phases of design including planning, proposal support, analytical design, construction documentation, and environmental plan development.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative technical professional capable of leading design efforts, producing high-quality deliverables, and working closely with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Perform piping design and drafting activities across multiple project phases including planning, proposal preparation, site evaluations, and construction documentation.
Lead and support piping design efforts for projects of varying size and complexity.
Produce complete
PFDs and P&IDs
based on verbal or written direction from design engineers.
Develop drawings using prescribed methods and industry-standard drafting techniques.
Plan and develop production drawings including layout design, problem analysis, and calculations for non-routine assignments.
Execute piping design assignments including system component sizing and refinement of conceptual sketches.
Implement revisions, redlines, and markups on active project drawings.
Analyze reports, drawings, and test data to support project design solutions.
Interpret and apply applicable design codes, standards, and specifications.
Perform layout calculations for equipment, schematics, and related systems.
Review drawings for quality assurance, ensuring compliance with scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
Maintain organized project documentation, revisions, and drawing files.
Coordinate effectively with clients and internal project teams through clear written and verbal communication.
Complete assigned project tasks within established budgets and deadlines.
Support additional project responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications One of the following combinations of education and experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Drafting Technology or related field
+ 7 years
of related experience, OR
Associate's Degree
+ 8 years
of related experience, OR
High School Diploma
+ 9 years
of progressive piping design/detailing experience.
Technical Skills & Experience
Advanced proficiency with design software including:
AutoCAD
Plant 3D
CADWorx
Microsoft Excel
Strong experience using both
2D and 3D design applications
to produce engineering drawings.
Advanced knowledge of piping design principles, calculations, and design systems.
Understanding of multidisciplinary coordination and related engineering disciplines.
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new design software platforms.
