
Loss Mitigation Underwriter

The Front-End Loss Mitigation Specialist plays a key role in the initial review of a loss mitigation application. This position is responsible for preparing loans for underwriting evaluation of temporary loss mitigation solutions, providing notification to the borrower of evaluation results, and documenting system of record. The specialist ensures compliance with investor/insurer, regulatory, and company guidelines while providing high-quality customer service.
This role requires 100% onsite attendance in our Pontiac office. WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
Gather and review borrower financials to determine eligibility for various loss mitigation solutions such as forbearance, repayment plans, trial payment plans, and hardship assistance programs.
Ensure critical steps in preparing the loan file are completed including title, escrow review, and investor related documentation is received.
Ensure all interactions and actions are documented in the servicing system according to CFPB, FHA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and other investor requirements.
Collaborate with underwriting, collections, and customer service teams to ensure timely and accurate processing of loss mitigation requests.
Educate borrowers on the consequences of non-payment and promote early intervention strategies to prevent foreclosure.
Track application status, deadlines, and escalating accounts at risk of timeline violations or regulatory breaches.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
2+ years in mortgage servicing, loss mitigation, collections, or related financial services.
Experience with investor guidelines (FHA, VA, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac) strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of mortgage delinquency, loss mitigation, and foreclosure prevention practices.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in mortgage servicing software (e.g., MSP, Black Knight) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work under pressure and meet regulatory deadlines.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
