
Director of Security & External Transportation

Overview
The Director of Security, External Transportation, and Parking is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, and operational oversight of security services, transportation operations, and parking management across the organization. This role ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, employees, and hospital assets while maintaining compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and administrative guidelines.
The Director collaborates with clinical and administrative leadership to support hospital operations, emergency preparedness, and safety initiatives while promoting exceptional service and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
Direct, plan, implement, and monitor the overall operations of
Security, External Transportation, and Parking services .
Ensure the safety and security of patients, visitors, staff, and hospital property across all facilities.
Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and operational protocols in accordance with regulatory and hospital standards.
Lead security operations including incident response, investigations, emergency preparedness, and coordination with law enforcement and public safety agencies.
Oversee transportation and parking operations to ensure safe, efficient, and customer-focused service delivery.
Maintain compliance with
Joint Commission standards
and other regulatory requirements related to hospital safety and security.
Provide leadership, direction, and performance oversight for departmental staff and management teams.
Foster strong working relationships with hospital leadership, clinical teams, and external partners.
Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, particularly in high-pressure or urgent situation.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required
Master’s degree preferred
Experience
Minimum
5 years of mid-management or executive-level security or law enforcement program experience
required
Healthcare security leadership experience preferred , including at least 6 years managing security operations in a healthcare environment
Skills and Competencies
Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to work effectively with executives, clinicians, staff, and the public
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to remain composed and make sound decisions in urgent or high-pressure situations
Thorough knowledge and practical application of
Joint Commission safety and security standards
