Job Description and Duties
The Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) provides legal advice to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) leadership to help ensure operations are conducted effectively and consistently with legal requirements. OLA attorneys anticipate legal issues and offer practical solutions, appropriately resolve legal disputes, advise on prison monitoring tours, public contract law, accounting services, construction management, facilities planning, policy development, regulatory work, court compliance, risk management, employee discipline, and represent CDCR at administrative hearings regarding psychiatric medication and appointment of healthcare surrogates.
Analyst III Role Under the general direction of the Assistant Secretary, CDCR, OLA, the Analyst III performs the most complex, sensitive, and critical analytical work related to department-wide legal and operational programs. The incumbent functions as a highly skilled expert and principal consultant, conducting advanced research and analysis, developing policy and operational recommendations, and preparing comprehensive executive-level briefings for leadership across CDCR. The Analyst III serves as a subject matter expert on high-impact and often sensitive CDCR issues and provides confidential consultative, analytical, and strategic support to OLA and directly to the Assistant Secretary.
Training and Development Assignment Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.

The successful candidate must reside in California when appointed.
