
Preconstruction Estimator

The Preconstruction Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for data center construction projects. This role supports preconstruction efforts through detailed quantity takeoffs, pricing analysis, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to ensure projects are financially viable and aligned with design intent and project goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Cost Estimation:
Prepare detailed cost estimates based on conceptual designs, schematic drawings, and specifications to support budgeting and financial planning.
Quantity Takeoffs:
Perform accurate material and labor quantity takeoffs to ensure precise project costing.
Design Coordination:
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and preconstruction teams to review design documents and ensure alignment with cost assumptions and constructability.
Bid Analysis:
Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitive and complete pricing.
Risk Management:
Identify cost‑related risks and uncertainties during the preconstruction phase and recommend mitigation strategies.
Value Engineering:
Propose cost‑saving alternatives and value engineering solutions while maintaining project quality and performance standards.
Database Management:
Maintain and update cost databases, historical data, and unit pricing for future estimating accuracy.
Stakeholder Communication:
Clearly communicate estimate assumptions, inclusions, exclusions, and risks to internal teams and leadership.
Documentation:
Prepare and present detailed estimate reports and supporting documentation.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay informed on market trends, material costs, and emerging technologies to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey estimate details and assumptions.
Analytical Skills:
Ability to analyze drawings, specifications, and market data to develop accurate cost projections.
Attention to Detail:
High level of accuracy and attention to detail in quantity takeoffs and pricing.
Time Management:
Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
Technical Proficiency:
Skilled in estimating software and tools.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 3–7 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in data center or mission‑critical projects.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in cost estimating software (Accubid Classic; Live Count Cloud; TraSer) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Industry Knowledge:
Understanding of construction methods, materials, and market conditions.
Certifications:
Relevant certifications are a plus.
