Research Field: History » Archaeology Education Level: Master Degree or equivalent Skills/Qualifications Compliance with the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws 2024, item 1571, consolidated text) Has at least a Master's degree in geoarchaeology, geology, physical geography, environmental archaeology or related fields in the discipline of Earth and related environmental sciences Has significant scientific achievements Has international experience Has documented experience in field-based geoarchaeological research, including the collection and interpretation of data from drill cores and test trenches Documented publication record in peer-reviewed journals or experience in preparing scientific reports Willingness to participate in field campaigns abroad in Sudan Fluency in English, both written and spoken. Participation in excavation work and preparation of field documentation and excavation reports Application of sedimentological, geochemical, and pedological methods in the reconstruction of archaeological landscapes Conducting grain size analysis, heavy mineral analysis, and mineralogical studies using X-ray diffraction (XRD) Performing geochemical analyses of sediments (major elements: Al, Fe, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Mn; and trace elements: Ba, Sr, Cu, Zn, Pb) Interpreting isotope analyses (oxygen – δ¹⁸O and carbon – δ¹³C) and magnetic susceptibility measurements of sediments, as well as analyzing quartz grain microstructures (sand and dust) using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to identify depositional environments and mechanical/chemical weathering processes. Analysis of sediment thin sections using polarizing microscopy and SEM with EDS detector in the context of anthropogenic studies Interpreting sediment dating methods (bulk sediment samples) for the reconstruction of archaeological site chronologies Interpreting elemental composition analyses of anthrosols (soils modified by human activity) using ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma – Atomic Emission Spectrometry) Conducting leaching and evaporation intensity tests to identify areas of water use and the function of specific spaces (open/roofed) Collaborating with the Principal Investigator, zooarchaeologist, archaeobotanist, and bioarchaeologist to develop a biography of the medieval population of Dongola, including patterns of mobility and the impact of climatic and environmental changes Reporting findings to the Principal Investigator after excavations and laboratory analyses Publishing results in collaboration with the Principal Investigator and contributing to the final project monograph.
