Job Summary Provides executive leadership and strategic oversight for all operations, administration, and clinical functions of Prisma Health Ambulance Service. Responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality prehospital patient care, while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies. Oversees staffing, budgeting, operations, training, quality improvement, and community engagement initiatives, fostering a culture of clinical excellence, patient safety, and operational efficiency. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to optimize Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system performance, enhance patient outcomes, and advance organizational goals. Works with an appointed Medical Director to ensure patient care protocols and quality improvement processes are consistent with standard practices. Collects performance data to measure success or improve processes and provides monthly reports to Leadership. Participates and collaborates with various departments within Prisma Health in the development of critical care, emergency, non-emergency, and scheduled transportation.

Essential Functions

Manages daily operations of selected service areas including 911, ambulance, wheelchair, billing, marketing, staffing, and support functions. Maintains strong relationships with municipal and contracted emergency and non-emergency medical transport providers, including helicopter and fixed‑wing services.

Manages superviral personnel assigned to Prisma Health Ambulance Services, acts as a liaison with other healthcare professionals in the provision of the services provided by EMS. Responsible for achieving departmental‑level Quality Pillar goals by monitoring the quality of the services offered and by implementing appropriate changes. Works with Executive Leadership, Medical Director, and others to develop and carry out multi‑year strategic plans.

Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to all aspects of operations including billing, documentation, etc. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and maintains applicable accreditations. Collects system data and uses this to forecast, develop interpret, and/or implement standard operating policies and procedures to establish value‑based and fiscally responsible priorities for department activities; ensures resource allocation and assignment of assets and personnel; disseminates information to supervisors and staff.

Maintains current paramedic level certification, responds to large‑scale incidents as part of the Incident Command System, responds to emergency and scheduled calls as needed, and provides general oversight on scenes as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory / Management Responsibilities

Job has direct and/or indirect supervision of employees that may include final budget authority, hire/termination/disciplinary authority, performance appraisal responsibility. Job will be considered a member of the management staff with direct reports.

Minimum Requirements

Education – Bachelors degree in Emergency Medical Services, Business, Healthcare, Public Administration or related field of study; preferred.

Experience – Two (2) years of experience as an EMS supervisor or related healthcare environment.

In Lieu of

In lieu of education and experience requirements listed above, three (3) years supervisory experience and Associate degree in related field may be considered.

Credentialled State Paramedic

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)

PEDS ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (PALS)

ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS)

National Registry Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic (NREMTP)

Critical Care Paramedic – Preferred

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of office equipment.

Computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, database, data entry skills.
