About the Department
The Department of Public Safety is committed to safeguarding the people of North Carolina through trained professionals. The Division of Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention works to reduce and prevent juvenile delinquency by intervening, educating, and treating youth. Primary Responsibilities
Provide case management and coordination of services concerning medical, mental health, and substance abuse issues for detained juveniles. Serve as liaison between juveniles, center staff, medical and mental health providers, court counselors, and other agencies. Schedule and facilitate health, mental health, and substance abuse appointments and arrange transportation. Document assessments, treatments, and follow‑up in records and database systems. Compile data for monthly reports. Ensure medical policy compliance and medication supply continuity. Directly supervise juveniles and enforce center procedures. Provide crisis intervention and group counseling. Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of directly related experience with juveniles; OR three years of experience in a related programmatic area; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of social work practices, casework, and community organization. Knowledge of government or private community resources. Basic medical terminology knowledge. Ability to manage hazardous situations and physically restrain juveniles as required. Must be a U.S. citizen, at least 20 years old, and possess a valid driver’s license. Pass criminal background check, drug screening, psychological test, sexual risk screening, and physical exam. Complete the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training Certification Program. Benefits
