
Director of Development

The Director of Development candidate is responsible for advancing the organization’s sustainability, visibility, and community impact. This position oversees fundraising strategy, donor relations, communications, and brand stewardship to ensure long‑term financial health and strong public engagement. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, relationship builder, and storyteller who is passionate about mission‑driven work and can align resource development with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, lead, and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan that includes individual giving, corporate partnerships, sponsorships, and special events.
Track fundraising metrics, revenue goals, and donor data; prepare regular reports for executive leadership and the Board.
Collaborate with the CEO and Board on major gifts and strategic funding opportunities.
Develop partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to support fundraising initiatives.
Work with the CEO to strengthen the organization’s fundraising culture.
Collaborates with direct services program and community outreach staff to align fundraising with program impact and storytelling.
Supports the organization’s adherence to financial procedures related to fundraising and gift management.
Donor Management/Strategic Planning
Build and maintain strong relationships with individual, corporate, and institutional donors
Cultivate, steward, and manage relationships with donors, foundations, corporate partners, and community stakeholders
Serve as the primary point of contact for donor inquiries
Develop personalized engagement strategies for key donors
Coordinate donor meetings, visits, and appreciation events
Ensure compliance with donor requirements.
Monitor fund utilization and coordinate with the Director of Finance & Administrative Services
Maintain and update the donor database.
Track donations, pledges, and donor communication history
Generate regular donor performance and analytics reports
Draft donor communications, including thank‑you letters, newsletters, and impact reports
Develop donor recognition programs
Ensure donors receive updates on project outcomes and impact.
Community & Public Relations
Build and maintain strong community partnerships that support the organization’s visibility and resource development.
Promote the organizational mission through outreach and relationship building.
Assist with duties assigned by the CEO
Organizational Support & Leadership
Uphold the mission, values, and culture of the Boys & Girls Club in all leadership decisions.
Maintain strong communication with the CEO and leadership team to support organizational priorities.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communication, and public relations
5–7+ years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience, including major gifts, corporate sponsorships, and annual campaigns.
3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role, managing staff, consultants, or volunteers.
Demonstrated success in meeting or exceeding fundraising revenue goals.
