
Carlin - Tailings and Heap Leach Engineer

Job Description
We are expanding our people division and looking for a Tailing and Heap Leach Engineer in the Carlin Environmental & Compliance department. The engineer will specialize in tailings and heap leach management, ensuring design, construction, operation, monitoring, and closure of tailings storage facilities (TSFs) and heap leach facilities (HLFs) at the Carlin Complex meet regulatory requirements, Barrick Tailings and Heap Leach Management Standards, and the Global Industry Standard on Tailing Management (GISTM).
Responsibilities
A strong health and safety leader that strives for personal and site-wide excellence.
Conduct regular inspections and monitoring of TSFs and HLFs.
Contribute to the development and implementation of tailings management plans and standard operating procedures, aligning them with GISTM guidelines.
Work closely with operating teams, mining engineers, environmental specialists, outside consultants, and Engineers of Record to ensure effective facility management.
Review and interpret monitoring data (groundwater levels, seepage, settlement, and other relevant parameters) to ensure stability and performance of TSFs and HLFs.
Effectively communicate geotechnical findings, conclusions, and recommendations to Process, Mine Operations and Engineering personnel.
Manage geotechnical drilling investigation programs.
Provide input and support during the reclamation and closure of TSFs or HLFs that have reached the end of their mine life.
Provide regular updates on water and mass balance modeling results to inform decision-making and optimize fluid management strategies around TSFs and HLFs.
Participate in interdisciplinary teams to address challenges and find innovative solutions.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Geological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related engineering degree, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of tailings and heap leach operations and construction.
Knowledge of water management practice and water balance modeling.
2 to 5 years of experience in the mining or a related industry.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a team.
