Senior Account Clerk
RESIDENCY: Candidates must have been legal residents of the following jurisdiction(s) for at least four months immediately preceding the date of your application: Livingston County, or One of the following Counties: Allegany, Genesee, Monroe, Ontario, Steuben or Wyoming APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS: In order for an application to be approved, the applicant must clearly show the training, education, experience, and/or licensure/certification stated in the Typical Qualifications. All qualifying information must appear on the application form. No credit will be given for a Work Experience description that is unclear. RELATED COLLEGE DEGREE: If the applicant is relying on a related college degree to qualify, the applicant must submit a copy of their unofficial college transcript with the application. If the applicant is hired, the applicant will be required to have their official transcript directly sent to the Livingston County Human Resources Department. The original transcript must be received by the Livingston County Human Resources Department before completing the onboarding process. The work involves responsibility for performing moderately difficult billing and clerical work in the maintenance and review of financial records. The work may require a general understanding of specific law, office rules, procedures and policies and billing regulations. Employees in this position do not perform double entry bookkeeping. Employees generally follow a prescribed routine in the performance of moderately difficult financial record keeping duties. Unusual problems or situations not previously encountered are referred to supervisors. Supervision over the work of others is not usually a responsibility of employees in this class. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the assigned supervisor allowing for some exercise of independent judgement on carrying out assignments in accordance with well-defined procedures. A Senior Account Clerk does related work as assigned. Examples of Duties
Oversees and classifies a variety of receipts and expenditures and distributes items according to prescribed procedures; Prepares bills for individual and third party payers, records remittances after computing interest and penalties; Reviews and checks account keeping records and reports for arithmetical and clerical accuracy, completeness and proper extension; Verifies and reconciles individual account balances; Conducts correspondence on matters where policies and procedures are well defined; Issues receipts for monies received; Compiles payroll data, prepares and checks payrolls; Compiles and prepares labor, material and operational cost records and reports; Processes, sorts, indexes, records and files of a variety of control records and reports; Provides information in response to telephone or personal requests; Is responsible for the preparation of reports from journal or ledger; Compiles data for, and prepares and analyzes complex financial and statistical records and reports; and Performs other related duties as assigned. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial records; good knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; good knowledge of business English; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to write legibly; ability to make arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; ability to get along well with others; clerical aptitude; mental alertness; a high degree of accuracy; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate to the demands of the position. Applicants must meet all requirements for one of the following qualification options in order to be approved for examination and/or appointment: Qualification Option # - 1 - 2 - 3 Training/Education - Possession of an Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field of study. - Possession of an Associate's degree. - Possession of a high school diploma or equivalency diploma. General experience - Six months of full-time, paid experience maintaining financial records. - One year of full-time, paid experience maintaining financial records. - Three years of full-time, paid experience maintaining financial records. Supervisory experience - N.A. License/ Certification - None required. Other requirements - None required. Part-time service will be given prorated credit toward experience requirements. C in all divisions A higher degree is also acceptable. Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. A related field of study is one in which the applicant successfully completed at least 9 credit hours of study in accounting and/or math. PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT NOTICE: An individual who receives a provisional appointment must take the examination for the position title on the next occasion it is offered. In order to be eligible for a permanent appointment to the position, the provisional appointee must pass the exam and be ranked 1, 2, 3, or be tied in score with the individual ranked number 3 of those who are willing to accept appointment to the position. It should be understood that even if the provisional appointee is eligible for appointment, the employer may choose another candidate to fill the position on a permanent basis. Questions regarding provisional appointments should be directed to the Livingston County Human Resources Department. NOTE: Livingston County residency is not a requirement for this position.
