A family in Highland Park is looking for a flexible, communicative, quick-thinking nanny to care for their two children, 2 years old and 5 years old. The current schedule is Monday through Thursday from 2:30 - 7:30. During the summer, these hours will remain the same. Starting in the fall the schedule will shift to 12:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Earlier availability for days when the daycare is closed is a plus but not a requirement. Duties include picking up the children from daycare, preparing and serving snacks and dinner, engaging in age-appropriate play and activities, including outings after daycare. Occasional household errands such as picking up groceries. Making the children dinner, giving them baths, helping them through their bedtime routine. Assisting with potty training and related clean-ups. Basic tidying up after the children. Cleaning up after dinner and tidying the kitchen. Preparing things for the next day such as the children's lunches and laying out their outfits. Ensuring the car is organized, stocked, and ready to go. The ideal nanny is flexible and a quick thinker. They must be able to maintain boundaries and schedules for the children. They should also be able to anticipate the children's needs and moods and make good judgment calls. The ideal candidate must be an experienced and safe driver. They should be comfortable learning new methods and educational approaches (such as ABA). Additionally, the family is looking for someone who is comfortable with learning the rules of kosher for their kitchen. The ideal candidate can maintain a calm and level head when things get chaotic. The 5 year old is inquisitive, funny, surprising, and meticulous. He loves planes, cars, cooking, math, science, and animals. He is a very smart and curious child with special needs (very high functioning autistic). He pushes boundaries and is very skilled at arguing and defining his own boundaries and needs someone who can gently maintain boundaries while finding the flexibility to help him feel comfortable. The 2 year old is affectionate, rambunctious, social, funny, and curious. He loves animals, cars, and cooking. He is a very open and expressive child. He is quite verbal and likes engaging with new people. When he is angry or frustrated he is equally expressive and vocal in resolving his issues. Both parents are communicative, friendly, and direct individuals. Mom is organized, involved, and loves updates. Dad has a busy schedule but is accessible and a problem solver. This family follows a Montessori structure and applies ABA practices in their home. This is a kosher household that values open communication. They currently have a nanny with a BCB certificate who is willing to teach a new nanny these methods. The family also has a behavioral technician, whose schedule may overlap in the beginning.
