Account Director (Prior Ad Agency Experience Required)

I’m working on a search that doesn’t fit the typical

Account Director

mold. This is not a role for someone who wants to live in strategy decks or sit a step removed from the work. It’s for someone who naturally takes control of an account and teams and makes sure things actually move.

You’ll own a key client relationship, but more importantly, you’ll own how the work gets done. There are a lot of moving pieces at any given time, and this role is about keeping everything aligned, on track, and moving forward without things getting sloppy.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be responsible for:

Running the client relationship without needing hand holding

Keeping multiple projects moving at once and stepping in when things drift

Translating client direction into clear, actionable plans for internal teams

Driving alignment across creative, operations, and leadership

Catching issues early and keeping timelines tight

Ensuring deliverables meet expectations without last minute fire drills

This role leans heavily toward execution. There’s still a strategic component, but it’s not the focus. It’s about making smart decisions in real time and making sure the work gets delivered the right way.

You’ll also lead a small team. This isn’t a passive management role. You’ll be expected to:

Provide clear direction and remove ambiguity for your team

Step in when things get off track and reset expectations quickly

Hold people accountable while maintaining a steady, professional tone

Coach and develop team members so they can take on more over time

We’re looking for someone who brings:

Agency experience in account management or client leadership

A track record of managing multiple active projects at once

Collaborative and motivating leadership experience (i.e., people love working for you).

Strong instincts around prioritization and organization

The ability to move between client conversations and internal execution without losing momentum

A calm, steady presence when timelines tighten, or priorities shift

Experience leading people, not just managing tasks

This tends to fit someone who has been the steady hand on their team. Either a current Account Director who prefers running the business versus talking about it, or a Senior Account Manager who is already operating at that level and ready to take full ownership.
