Overview
Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Preconstruction to lead their growing preconstruction function. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of estimating, contract management, scheduling, and value engineering who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Senior Director will be a trusted client-facing leader, responsible for scaling a high-performing team while driving strategy, process development, and collaboration across operations. Responsibilities
Lead and oversee all aspects of the preconstruction function, including estimating, scheduling, and constructability reviews. Partner closely with operations to ensure seamless alignment between preconstruction deliverables and field execution. Develop and mentor a growing team, creating clear career pathways and building a culture of accountability, collaboration, and growth. Build strong, trust-based relationships with both clients and internal stakeholders. Take ownership of estimates, project pursuits, and deliverables, ensuring accuracy, quality, and timeliness. Establish scalable systems and repeatable processes to support long-term growth. Represent the company in business development activities including client meetings, industry events, and sales presentations. Drive strategic initiatives to expand preconstruction capacity and improve margin performance. Qualifications
Must-Haves: Minimum of 10 years’ experience in estimating, contract management, and leadership roles within the construction industry. Broad expertise beyond estimating, including scheduling, value engineering, and operational alignment. Strong client-facing presence: articulate, confident, and professional in managing stakeholders. Proven success in leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams. Experience navigating high-growth or startup-like environments within larger enterprises. Deep knowledge of market pricing across diverse geographic regions. Willingness to contribute to business development efforts. Preferred: Proficiency with Procore, Destiny estimating, CMiC, and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of MEP systems and trade partner coordination. Exposure to office TI, retail, and warehouse (non-manufacturing) projects. Experience with self-perform trades (drywall, carpentry, concrete) is a plus. Exhibits confidence and positivity without ego; skilled at managing complex client needs. Client-focused, proactive, and forward-thinking. Strong communicator with the ability to influence and persuade. Analytical, meticulous, and solutions-oriented. Comfortable with high-stakes decision-making and “courageous conversations.” Energetic, adaptable, and capable of multitasking effectively.
